Parts of Half Life you didn't like

HL1: First time I played the game it took me forever to get past On a Rail. Stupid level is a goddamn maze!
Opposing Force and Blue Shift I have forgotten completely. (Purposely forgot about them after I had finished with them)
HL2: Any part with Alyx
Ep1: Alyx
Ep2: Alyx

Why?

I hate the gunship fight before you enter nova prospeky in hl2. You would think, “Oh its over there I can get a rocket real quick.” Then it speeds over and rapes you to death. IT WAS ANNOYING AS ALL FUCKING HELL (sry caps )

He’s gay obviously.

For me personally I didn’t really like the underground tunnels throughout Episode One, that’s about it really!

Only part in the whole series i haven’t liked is the one part in HL1 where u have to go through that tower of teleporters and basically guess untill you find the right one.

That part after the credits, where it was over?
Yeah, that part sucked. At least in HL2 there was a nice movie before that part.

On a rail was my LEAST favorite… just too boring

Xen wasn’t that great. BS did Xen wonderfully though.

i guess Interloper, Gonarch’s lair and Power Up

I hated the fact that I missed so many things in HL1 until years later playing Sven Co-op. Such as: the fact that you didn’t need rockets to destroy helis and that ospreys were even destroyable in the first place; turrets targeted hornets; secret passage to turn off the turret in Office Complex… I’ve played all the way through probably a dozen times and I’m sure there’s even more that I missed

Oh, and I hated that there were certain rooms that had no doors, but were obviously meant to be accessed in some way other than a vent or pipe somehow.

And the whole “Half-life feeling” seemed to go away with HL2 and the EP’s… not that they’re bad (I still thoroughly enjoy them), it’s that they just don’t feel the same and I can’t quite put my finger on “why” exactly.

OAR

That “Half-life feeling” you’re thinking of is called nostalgia. The more you fixate on it, the bigger ass you become.

At the risk of going off-topic; exactly how does nostalgia make someone become an ass?
I envision BM having more of the “Half-life feeling” than anything else ever released on the source engine. So does that imply the whole BM team is nothing but asses for wanting to faithfully recreate the original on a better engine?

What I’m referring to isn’t really related to graphics exactly (I’d probably play that anyway just to see what it’s like); it’s more the fact that there’s such a huge leap in the storyline between HL1 and HL2. Instead of telling the story through a playable game, they decided to tell the story of what happened in bits and pieces through the characters in HL2. Like I said, I do like the sequels a lot, but I think that the leap between the two left a bigger hole in the story than what can be properly filled with storytelling in the EP’s. In my opinion, EP3 will still leave a lot of questions as to what actually happened in that “missing” time frame. Hell, maybe Valve is just leaving the door open for future “flash-back” installments?

By fixating on it, and preferring things to be nostalgic over being updated/improved for no adequate reason. In other words; Black Op.

Half Life: The second icthyosaur room, I kept missing the jumps and got chewed up by the icthys
Opposing Force: Rope swinging and the terminally dull gene worm
Blue Shift: Xen, I took hours trying to navigate those damn tunnels the first time, for some reason my flashlight wouldn’t work
Decay: The fact that in single player the other character has just about zero AI
Half Life 2: Some parts in the city 17 battle that dragged on
Episode 1: The parts that involve plugging antlion burrows
Episode 2: The bit with all the zombies wading through the sludge (“freeman pontifex” I think)

Ok, I see what you’re saying, even though I don’t completely agree. Just as long as you’re not trying to lump me into that group…
BTW, what’s “Black Op?”

Another forum member.

What, that was my favourite HL chapter :expressionless:

Explain yourself :freeman:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
