nah, theyre both great games…
about that eastern europe vs. USA settning thing:
i have read that its because of the UdsSR society, art, architecture and stuff
that had a great contrast concerning pre and post RC, incident, invasion or
whatever you want to call it
i still wonder how the *** eli, kliener, mossman and barney got there … perhaps gman intervention?
…you said that already
It looks cooler than boring ass US we’ve seen 1,000,000,000,000 times.
lolwut
I dunno about that, New York would have been kind of cool. Or maybe Gordon’s hometown of Seattle.
To be fair, it is a breath of fresh air to have a FPS set somewhere outside of America and in an Eastern Europe environment that doesn’t look like a total nuclear-holocaust of a wasteland, but that’s just my opinion.
In regards to the topic title, I personally preferred HL1, I remember when I stumbled upon this game on accident while HL2 was being marketed. Gave it a go and was blown away. I think cause of all the hype HL2 had with all of its beta-videos and that, when I ended up playing the Half-life 2 we all know and love today I felt kinda let down as I personally preferred some of the beta locations and gameplay (though most of it was scripted for the E3 Presentations)
Half-Life was the first FPS I ever played, I can literally always play it. Half-Life 2 is also one of my favorite games, but hl1, words can’t describe it mang.
I’m pretty sure everyone in North America or maybe even the entire world who survived the 7-hour war was moved do C17 or somewhere else in Europe. Isn’t it supposed to be that over half the world was rendered uninhabitable?
To be fair, there are PLENTY of clean “european” looking cities and towns in america. In fact, most towns in america are clean and lush with trees, etc. That said, every game set in america seems to take place in LA or New York, both cities of which are huge in population, and kind of slummy in their own way.
Simple. Barney, Eli, and Isaac are friends. Barney is transferred to City 17 after he goes to work for Civil Protection.
Eli and Isaac move to City 17 (Eli losing his leg to a bullsquid trying to enter) because they now have a friend in the CP and can operate with little fear. Judith is a fan of Eli’s work so moves to City 17 herself and tries to ingratiate herself.
Judging by the poll I would say Valve did a damn good job with the sequel.
I voted for Half-Life 2. Simply because it was completely fun for me all the way through. There weren’t any parts that annoyed me and I actually bothered to beat the game several times. I’ve beat Half-Life probably an equal number of times but I’ve been playing it since it came out so…
Or they just enjoyed the sequel more than the first game?
Stop trying to put your opinion over other opinions!
My vote goes for HL2!
Reasons: Better story, the Gravity Gun, more action and fun (because of physics and ragdoll) and I also prefer the apocalyptic city setting!
making it equal like it should be
lol
I like the Earopean setting, it displays what the world is like after the seven hour war better than if it was in the united states. personally I think that if it was in the uniteeed states then it would be alot worse. Also if it takes place in Bulguria then why does everyone speak perfect english?
The country is called BulgAria and we do speak english here in EU. You know education and stuff. Although I bet that if you chose different language in options, npcs would speak for example french.
this is exactly my opinion. hl2 looked so cool @ E3… why didn’t we get all the cool NPCs (Hydra, Cremators, Stalkers, Combine Guards, Combine and Alien Assassins, Bullsquids and Houndeyes), weapons (see here: https://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Cut_weapons), maps (I especially missed the Trapdown docks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__qtaoEpjFU&hd=1) and the improved AI? For me HL2 just can’t run with HL1. Not enaugh diversity… and not enaugh crazy but brilliant gameplay. HL2 is just a mix between Doom3 and Halo like it is now. I don’t like that. It should have been more Half-Life like.
HL2 was a much darker game before the leak.
Noeh, is a game that doesn’t take place in the US too scary for you?
I’m playing through HL1, and I guess I’m liking HL2 more so fat, just because I am a graphics whore. But HL1 does feel like more things happen in it… Hmm, I guess I’ll still go with HL2 on this one.
(Unrelated, if Mass Effect 3 takes place in the US, I’m gonna cry…)
All the HL2 beta fanboys should just play Missing Information, it sucks balls. Words cannot describe how glad I am they scraped that stuff.
On topic: Although there are some parts of HL2 that I’m not very fond of, the parts that I do like are way more awesome than anything HL can offer. HL2 is a more sophisticated game and is simply better in my book.
