HL2 vs HL1?

You know, watching Half-Life 2 beta trailers and previews like docks etc (before leak and all that kind of shit) you had a feeling, that this game is going to be again about surviving (you yourself againt the world). After release you find out that it’s all about becoming new American Superhero in the middle of Europe. Game’s diversity rests in grave (we were promised dried ocean’s desert, big ships etc. and a little more enemies than combine troopers/antlions/zombies trio). Not to mention Alyx who possibly couldn’t be any little more annoying. I bet Half-Life 3/Episode 3 is going to be all about Alyx falling in love with Gordon. Meh… Just my opinion again.

PS. Bare in mind that Missing information is just… a mod. Not Valve’s product. No surprise it’s not first class game.

is it bad that i would have MUCH rather played that version of HL2?

i really wanted that sense of urgency and survival from HL1 in HL2, and this build looked to have it.

Well, Alyx is fun sometimes, but I don’t like how much of a moron she is. I’ve had her die in me multiple times, because whenever I try to shield her from something, she runs TOWARDS the Zombine with the grenade, or runs TOWARDS the soldier with the shotgun, where I can’t get a shot at him. And then she dies. WTF? She doesn’t take cover or anything.

EDIT: Just watched that video, it didn’t seem that much better than the way it is now. However, did anybody else notice how the player grav-gunned a big “F” and a big “U” at the strider? :stuck_out_tongue:

that’s what happens when you focus on marketing before the game is done

it was proven in the leak, the only completed maps were made specifically for the E3 demonstration and were 100% scripted, the actual single player campain was barely playable and only about 30% completed

Actually, I don’t think that’s completely true. Axel Douchey McLeakwaffle recently said that when he stole the beta he was only able to get a tiny amount of the content Valve had created at that point.

It seems that the beta material was scrapped more because Valve wasn’t satisfied with it than anything to do with the leak.

Just to clarify. I like both games, but Half-Life 1 was at its time unique and perfect. Half-Life 2 was just like any other solid, good game of its time but nothing more really.

wtf why is hl2 winning this is an outrage

Because it’s got more replay value?

<— problem?

In all seriousness, I want the poll to be 50/50, when they are this close to equal I am neither happy nor sad.

The polls should be 50/50, and can all those HL1 lovers stop puxhing what they think on us, it doesn’t help you when youre saying that andone who thiks HL2 is better doesn’t know Half Life (Which is kinda a paradox)

I just balanced it back out 50/50. Unless the next person chooses HL2 then not anymore obviously.

Anyway, Reason i voted on HL1: I played it first on the PS2 and it was my favorite game on the PS2 for a long time. Then i moved to a computer once i got a lil older, since i first played half-life when i was 9 or 10 years old, and got the computer version of it asap.
I felt nostalgia for the very first time just playing the ORIGINAL Half-life on pc.
So thank you ol’ PS2 for the loving memories.

HL2 is a super sharp game and easily one of the best games ever made, even to this day… But Half-life 1 has more character and depth and initially is what started everything making the series snowball into a successful ball of pure gaming awesomeness.

It all depends how you judge it. Many people here will remember Half-Life in all its nostalgic glory, whilst still remaining bitter at the dissappointment of Half-Life 2 failing to live up to its impossible hype.

At the same time you could judge it on its originality and the impact that it had, in which case the first would be more groundbreaking.

Thankfully I played both after all of the hype, and so while I am slightly more biased towards HL2’s better looks, it seems clear to me at least, that Valve simply learned lessons from the first and improved on what is still a brilliant game which I go back to time and again.

I’ve alredy said that I prefer Half-Life 1 slightly. But since that time, I realised that Half-Life 2 can still give me the amount of challanges that could sate my hunger:

I’ve finished HL 2 yesterday, on hard level with 1 hp all along. Unlike HL 1, here I had to utilize a very different method to beat the game this way. It was hard, but it was a great buzz - something I didn’t expect I can still feel after I’ve beaten the game a dozen times or more.

doesn’t scare me. Neither does Dead Space 2.

Now go play Ep1+Ep2

…through the whole game? 1hp of health from beginning to end? No godmode, buddha mode, notarget?..

I’m calling Bullshit on that.

It was quite obvious he did not mean that.

I’m pretty sure he did. With >9000 quicksaves it should be doable. Difficult as fuck but doable.

I played through blue shift before without losing any health or armour.
So many quicksaves.

I did planty of save games (because my F5 screenshot save doesn’t work it seems). To answer your question, I didn’t use any cheat codes addons or mods.

EDIT: Oh please… I just realised that I’ve a steam folder on 2 of my hard drives. Well, the screenshots are avaible afterall. If you want me to see more proof. Here I am. But now I begin to do EP1, although it will be hard to go down to 1hp at the start. Edit over.

It worths a note that I had to pick up 2 medkits before I got into the buggy, because that rebel dropped me down to the sand, and I kept taking ~20hp demage just because of the fall. So I picked the medkits, got dropped down, than drove the buggy back to the ladder, and went down to 1hp again safely. I found no other way.
As for the rest of the game, I didn’t take any medkits or armors anywhere else.

=== I gotta admit, working with the rebels in the final chapters of the game, especially with the rebel medics, at first did pushed me into such a rage that I really hate… Not to mention the part when I had to keep the soldiers at bay until Alyx opened that road blocking gate. ===

Will do, mate.

wtf you actually did that u crazy bro

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
