HL2 vs HL1?

I’m curious, which of the two HL games do you prefer? Not including the episodes.

I personally prefer HL1, as the game was just more fun and full of variety. I loved the boss fights, the simplistic puzzles, and the mass amounts of enemies.

Personally, i am not a huge fan of HL2. It’s not bad, but it’s not the best game ever. I feel like they spent too much time making you fight the combine, and not enough time exploring the xen monsters. I also miss the scripted events that happened oh so often in HL1, like watching zombies attack scientists and the like.

that’s a cute cat :retard:

I prefer hl1, but I think hl2 is the superior game.

:freeman:

I like both equally. That should be added to the poll.

HL1 has more nostalgic value to me.

Also gibs.

I thought The Combine provided great variety and challenge. They always have a new trick up their sleeve.

And there are only so many Xen monsters, which already weren’t explored very much in HL1.

And I don’t recall a single scripted zombie attack in the game.

I agree. 50-50.

Half-Life 1 was set in the present day. A good part of the story is quite believeble (secret facility, dangerous experiments, resonance cascades, goverment cover up, invulerable guy in blue suit)

Half-Life 2 is set to unknown years into the future, a quite dystopian one, filled with invulnerable npcs. But there is a more open environment, vehicles, and a sexy girl for a sidekick.

Edit: Also in an action game the intro and the ending is quite important, and I think Half-Life is slightly better in this (5 min tram ride in the beginning, and G-man’s sudden intervention at the end), while in the case of Half-Life 2, we’ve to explore things on our own, a things are a bit messy for the first time, and as for the ending: the mysterious G-man’s sudden… … aw, c’mon it’s quite a déja vu. We could expect him to aproach us, since we know he was stalking us the whole time.

I lean towards liking them equally, but ultimately it’s gotta be Half Life. I still vividly remember what I was doing the first time I loaded up the game and the tram scene faded in. The game was so much better than any other FPS I’d ever played that it made them all look shitty by comparison.

Hl2, hl1 was good but punishing for a mistake prone new FPS player but when i do get more experience, i’ll see.

HL1 > HL2, everybody who doesn’t think so doesn’t have any clue about Half-Life. Just a fact. You will see… When BM is out… and you play BM and after that HL2… you will stop HL2 after the first 3 maps and go back to BM… HL1 is just PWN compared to HL2, which isn’t PWN.

Disagree, I have all clue of what Half life is and I prefer HL2 because of many reasons, namely story

holy crap hl1 is winning

I’ve played all the way through HL1 maybe 10 times, and I’ve completed HL2 or one of the episodes at least 100 times.

tech wise, HL2 is the best, and i really enjoy it.

on the other hand, HL is just… more fun.

I didn’t ask about tech. I am talking about overall.

Of course a 2004 game (which is still updated visually to this day) is going to be more technically impressive then that of a game in 1998.

I enjoyed HL2 more. A perfect reason of why that game was so good was when you came out of the mines after Ravenholm and the music started playing while you faced your first snipers. Valve just fit everything so perfectly together in it. I think it also had a better atmosphere than hl1, I mean, look at Ravenholm and tell me it’s not an epic experience, the first time I went through there, I was shitting my pants the whole time.

I enjoyed HL1 more the first couple of times, but HL2 seems to stay fresh longer, to me.

Ever heard of Doom 3?
