One would think not, because in the beginning of Portal, GLaDOS says “The Aperture Science Enrichment Center.”
Then again, it’s GLaDOS, we know we can’t trust anything she says.
I would guess that there aren’t any more Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Centers than there are Black Mesa Research Facilities. Top-secret government-funded research laboratories are not often noted for their franchise opportunities.
- Is there more than one Enrichment Center?
We only see one of them, but there are in fact (that we know of) one in Ohio, one in Upper Michinigan (the one you play in) and the Borealis if that counts.
And about my spelling; I know it’s bad, because I’m Swedish, but the words I know how to spell must be right according to me…
Ah, Valve. They sure know how to pull a prank.
Hey, people, I just fought about one thing : Some say that Ep3 couldn’t be released before Portal 2, because something wouldn’t make sense without it.
And I thought of something logical : What if Wheatley crashes on earth because he’s been taken out of orbit by satallite launched in the end of EP2,and Gordon and the others come across him? That would be cool and make a lot of sense. (to me at least )
It’s extremely likely that Portal 2 takes place a long time after the Half-Life storyline is resolved.
If you mean the vegetation,it could really spread like that in 20 years.
Unless Gordon goes back into stasis.
But yes, everything points towards Portal 2 taking place a LONG time after the episodes. And the chances of the specific piece of debris you mentioned hitting Wheatley is incredibly small.
(one rocket is small in something fairly huge like space, and we don’t know if Wheatley is orbiting Earth or just floating out of the solar system)
I would love to see the gluon gun (aka the egon). Who with me?
With so many Black Mesa references in Portal 2, I doubt it’s set too far in the future. Portal was likely set soon after the Seven Hour War (perhaps a few years) judging by GLaDoS’s dialogue. Portal 2 is likely only a few years after the first, I’d say. Given that Chell is dragged back down at the end of the third, I doubt she’d have been in stasis for too long and it doesn’t look like she’s aged that much. Vegetation wouldn’t need that long to grow. I think it’s likely there’ll be a merge of the storylines at some point, and if there is, then too much of a gap in timeline would minimise that. Gordon isn’t set back to Earth until years after the Combine have taken over, so it seems reasonable to me that the two stories will indeed line up. Unlikely that the Portal gun will be used in Half-Life; it would take away what Portal has as a game by itself. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Combine come into possession of one and Gordon having to fight someone with it. It would be very cool if for HL3 deathmatch (assuming there’ll be one) there’s the ability to use the Portal gun, even if it’s just on a few maps. Just gonna have to wait and see really.
Can’t believe I didn’t notice this the first time I read your post.
This is how I will pronounce Michigan from now on. What has been learned can not be unlearned. :rabies:
But the field of wheat at the end of Portal 2 kind of hints that the Combine aren’t on Earth any more. At least that’s the theory.

Well,it would really make sense if Wheatley appears in HL3.
Othetwise, well,it wouldn’t make much sense they released P2 earlier.
