Is this thread still active? I’ll throw in my two cents. I think the major gameplay change in hl3 will be a co-op campaign with two POV story-lines. It’s possible this will be the reintroduction of Adrian Sheppard.
The game’s almost certainly going to start with Gordon waking up. He has a habit of fainting after game-ending trauma, and I’m sure G-man will have a monologue. Remember that ep2 ended with Alyx whispering “help… help…”: I have a feeling G-man will send said help (I don’t want to discuss G-man’s motives here; no one really knows).
We know valve wants a new dynamic model for what used to be their singleplayer games, and we know that “we haven’t seen the last of Adrian Sheppard,” and G-man is very aware of his cards and how to play them. Basically, sending “help” fits the plot line and the Valve ultimate goal of making all games social.
I’m not sure how they’ll implement it, but I’m fairly confident the social component of hl3 will be dual campaign.
Oh whoops, that wasn’t a plot speculation. Most of the game is Freeman getting to the boat. Characters continue to develop through a series of mishaps, and Alyx has a lot of moments where you, Gordon, are the only thing that keeps her alive. Freeman teleports the Borealis to Xen and destroys it. Literally destroys Xen. Wipes it from the universe. This ultimately keeps the Combine away from Earth, then people start making babies again. Mossman dies, Barney doesn’t die for sure, but he does something heroic and could be dead or alive, Kleiner lives, Alyx almost dies (again) but DOG saves her. If DOG dies I’ll have to go on a walk mid-game and hold a silent vigil.
