As for the GLaDOS/Chell/ASHPD, I have an idea which is based purely on speculation and wishful thinking:
Gordon arrives on the Borealis (the Aperture Science Ship (ASS) Borealis? 
). After fighting scores of Combine forces and such and encountering malfunctioning portal technology (I envision a scene with Gordon looking through a window and seeing a Combine soldier playing with an ASHPD and shooting a portal through his friend – “Dammit, Mike! I’ve got a hole in my stomach!” “Yeah, but now I can see right through you!” :retard 
, Gordon arrives in a GLaDOS like test chamber where he inadvertently starts GLaDOS up. The top of the chamber vanishes into a massive superportal, a la the end of Portal, and Combine forces go flying up and out of sight beyond quickly changing destinations. As Gordon rises to the superportal, you hear GLaDOS say, “Affixing destination portal in 3…2…STATIC” before Gordon blacks out…
You then hear alien-like growling sounds and Eli’s voice echoing, “Not again…not another Black Mesa…” and Alyx’s voice responding, “Prepare for unforeseen consequences.”

Anyone else pissed that the only news we hear about episode 3 is just about some deaf guy / Alyx’s love interest? Unless he’s a leading resistance member in the arctic base Mossman is in, or something like that, I couldn’t give a shit about him.

Interesting. I wonder if that’s just backstory justification though for Dog using sign language to communicate in Ep3? After a while you can only get so much communication through via doggy-like behaviour and sounds.

Its proberly more related to what ever valve are cooking up on the side, but it is an intresting idea I dont think we have had a deaf person in a game before.
It could be a previouse relationship/freindship of alex, I always thought there was allot of emotion in the first stalker seen. Where alex talks about this is what happens to those who resist, as if she was talking about somone close to her.
but then that is some high conjecture on my part.

Alyx back story, including a romantic twist will be awesome for everyone except the alyx haters. Luckily they are insignificant. The character depth developed over the last few episodes while keeping the parts of the game everyone loves is nothing short of amazing. Go valve. Like raw_bean said though, it is most likely an excuse to have dog use sign language in ep3. Maybe to communicate via a video feed or a telescope.
well possibly it could be a hint for the future but it would be a very unintuitive method of story telling to the many of us who cant sign, it would have to be over a com or telescope because I really cant see dog being strapped to the bottom of that helicopter.
