Episode 3 Discussion and Information.

Time travel, like the acceptance that there are an infinite number of dimensions, can easily ruin a narrative. Like infinite dimensions, it makes any actions taken irrelevant, because “somewhere” else it was done another way, or can be undone.

Who said it would be successful? I just said that It had a lot of potential. It could send them even further to the future, send them far into the past, to an alternate reality, or to something else entirely. That doesn’t mean it will work the way they intended it to, or even be used. My point is that it’s it drives the plot by being so useful & desirable, it is foreshadowed, fitting & leaves dozens of possibilities for what a HL3 could someday be like without having to commit to very much in order to end the current story arc.

It could also make something as awesome as Back To The Future if done right.

I dunno, Valve has tried hard to make all the tech in their universe seem plausible, and time travel is such a hard thing to explain and to keep from getting messy (especially when going to the past) that I don’t think even they will try to tackle it. There’s always some pieces that don’t fit, like:

-Terminator: John Connor should not even exist because of the time paradox here.

-Timeline: Time travel doesn’t exist, you go to parallel universes that exist at the same time. Great, but if that’s the case, the Professor’s message wouldn’t get to their universe and they wouldn’t be able to find Andre’s tomb.

i think he can’t go to the past. He can only freeze time, go everywhere and go to the future

This G-man speech kind of points me to time travel.

“Time, Dr. Freeman? Is it really that time again? It seems as if you only just arrived. You’ve done a great deal in a small time span. You’ve done so well, in fact, that I’ve received some interesting offers for your services. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t contemplate them… but these are extraordinary times. Rather than offer you the illusion of free choice, I will take the liberty of choosing for you… if and when your time comes round again. I do apologize for what must seem to you an arbitrary imposition, Dr. Freeman. I trust it will all make sense to you in the course of… well… I’m really not at liberty to say. In the meantime… this is where I get off.”

What do you think?

well imo anybody who read that speech would be lead to believe that the g-man implies time travel … i mean there’s “time” at least 3 times in one row and he does sling gordon around a hell of a lot

Not really. Every use of time is in a linear context.

Hahaha…that makes me laugh when your rank is “headcrab” and you have a picture of a lion :freeman:

Again, if traveling into the past is something not even Gman is capable of, than it’s all the more reason he might want you to get on the borealis, or to stop you.

You know that’s what Gman’s really saying.

I think time traveling would be too much sci-fi for Half-Life …

I would like to see if there will be an upgrade to the HEV suit

why ? what’s bad about it now ? the onliest thing i can think of that can be upgraded if necessary is the reintroduction of the long jump module …

:what:

Are the Rugrats posting now?

well what ? that’s at least what i can think of :meh:

if you have any ideas feel free to share them

:expressionless:

You do realise I was referring to your bad spelling?

damn … sorry about the bad spelling , I’m a moron

Does no one realise that none of these theories about time travel are at all likely? It all sparked off from one fan theory and most of you are acting as if Valve has hinted at it. It’s most likely something to do with teleportation, for these reasons:

  1. Aperture Science is the company that made the portal gun and it would tie in with the Portal storyline somewhat.
  2. “It would be like Seven Hours War all over again”. The Seven Hours War was the result of a Combine portal opening up on Earth and allowing a massive load of Combine forces to beat the shit out of Earth’s forces. Nothing about time travel is suggested.
  3. Teleportation plays a large part in the Half-Life storyline. Time travel does not.
  4. Eli says “Not another Black Mesa”, suggesting he doesn’t want aliens, be they Xenian or Combine, teleporting all over the place again.
  5. The Borealis disappeared and appeared somewhere else. That’s teleportation.

i dont think he meant that it’d be exactly like the seven hour war or that it’d be cause by a portal . i think he implied that if the borealis isnt destroyed then everything will end in and utterly disastrous way and all of the progress that the resistance has made will be wiped away and they’d be back so square one

time? line? time is not made out of lines. its made out of circles. that is why clocks are round

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
