Ah, damn, I was fearing it was done before. Oh well!
As I already said… HL2 looked good when it was released, GTA San Andreas not. “Not looking good today” is not identical to “Did not even look good back then”. I’m not saying it was a bad game, but IMO it is overrated. Please read the entire post before you answer.
I’m sorry but, San Andreas looked quite good when it was released, at least compared to other GTA games.
And it was fun. That’s the important thing.
I still think it looks decent. I can easily play it and after about 5 minutes you stop noticing.
Also Ham, do you think games that come out on the PSP or DS matter graphically? They are on a different format. Sure they don’t look good by todays PC standards but that’s the point. San Andreas was a PS2 game.
Plus it runs on my mac (sans mouse controls, but thats my computer), and that gets it insta-points in my book.
San Andreas runs fine on my 9 inch netbook.
Sometimes I play it at the bus stop when I see a sucker playing with a DS.
Once again:
- I’m not saying it was a bad game.
- “Not looking good today” is not identical to “Did not even look good back then”, this time due to being ported from an “older” console.
- I did not mention PSP or DS, I was talking about a game being ported from PS2 to PC and the given technical limitations.
BUT DO GRAPHICS EVEN MATTER! (except when the max resolutio is 600 x 400)
Holy hot damn. It was an analogy. My point being that some technology is better than others at certain times. Sure it looked average for a PC game, but for a PS2 game it looked great.
Also you said it was overated because of the graphics.:hmph:
FFVII is the only game to date that has graphics that bug me. I have no clue why though. Maybe the poor graphics were just enhancing the overall lack of fun I found it.
I have to say it, GTAIV is in my top five. Of overrated games that is.
I like GTAIV, but I think it’s fair to call a game that gets 10 point reviews from sites like IGN and Gamespot “overrated”… unless that game is “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.”
Of course visuals matter. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron who should go back to his/her text based games and shut up.
HOWEVER! They aren’t the most important thing. Not even important enough that if you have over the top fantastic visuals, you can nerf other important aspects. Visuals serve various purposes for varying styles of games, but they certainly DO matter.
Also, I found FarCry over rated. It’s okay…but that ending… :fffuuu:
I can’t believe it was given 90+% by PC gamer, and almost perfect ratings by many other reviews. Good - okay, Great - Uh…I dunno about that, Nearing perfection - No.
I like it to, but as you said it doesn’t deserve the amount of praise it gets by a fair amount.
Also Farcry 2 was released unfinished, the devs have said so themselves but their publisher wouldn’t allow a delay so a lot of (cool) things were cut from the game.
I agree with you…
…Oh, wait. You just had to ruin it.

No it was not. No part of button mashing your way through a gym is fun. At all.
I never did that. I just ran around with a chainsaw, and used cheats when I had to swim underwater for a long time.
