Your Top FIve Over-rated games

I have nothing to say to that except: pffffff.

Well, hopefully we can at least agree that “Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops” sucked, right?

Yeah, I bought that game and only played it for about 20 minutes, didn’t like it. The part I hated the most is that it wasn’t continuous, you picked a level, played it, and then went and picked another.

I had fun on it, but it was a truly awful game.

Haha I suppose you’ve made your point ^^

The R4 is a cartridge that you put in the DS that you can put a microSD card in to play homebrew games and such :stuck_out_tongue:

To build on what Opeo is saying a couple posts back, I find it disheartening that many games have been released since Half-Life, some of them raising the bar significantly for what to expect in a video game. For that reason, gamers who play Half-Life for the first time nowadays often think it sucks, especially if they aren’t accustomed to playing older, 20th century video games. These gamers subconciously compare HL to games they’ve played recently, and develop a poor rating for a game that was a milestone in its time, but is undershadowed by recent games superior in graphics, animations, maybe even story.

Ah, okay, I didn’t know about that.

The emulation point is probably moot, other than to say that its not enough of a reason to buy the PSP in and of itself, just a nice extra that you have once you’ve bought it. Kind of like Homebrew.

No, that’s exactly what I expected, but its exactly what I didn’t want, and a big reason why I sigh greatly whenever I see someone playing GTA on a PSP. They’re cut down, reduced versions of their big brothers that are nowhere near as fun to play. I played Starwars Battlefront on the PSP and almost killed myself in the process. My point was: Why on EARTH would you buy another console and another copy of a game you more than likely already own just to play it on the go when its nowhere near as good a gaming experience? You wouldn’t. And if you would, well then, you aren’t too bright either.

The reason that I personally think the DS wins is because the touch screen is actually different from every other gaming console (barring the Wii…somewhat), and hence provides a completely (or…almost completely) different gaming experience. From Trauma Centre to…other games that I don’t know about because I don’t own one of the damn things, the experience is distinct and enjoyable because its different, not because its the same. The games are catered specifically for the platform, not hacked into submission like some of the poorer PSP ports.

And my comment about small screens was when compared to, well, a TV. I just can’t get over the eye strain factor that REALLY comes into play when you’re on a PSP trying to play GTA or watching a movie.

I have a fairly inherent dislike of portable gaming now, partly because I was deprived as a child but mostly because I just don’t have the time to play games on the go any more. Any time that I’m not driving somewhere I’m reading or sleeping (or taking a minute to collect my thoughts) and any other time (and even most of the times that I’m in transit) I’d rather just use my computer (which I carry on me most of the time anyway).

But after all that’s said and done, I don’t think the PSP is particularly overrated. It delivers what it advertises; a mini PS3, and it does so with great efficacy. As Soup said, the screen is big, the specs are monstrous and its extra abilities to play everything from PS1 to GB games is a definite plus. SD cards are a big meh, but who really cares given that they’re cheap as chips now. The only reason I dislike them is because of the games.

Yeahhhhhhhhh, no. There’s a LOT of shovelware, but there are definitely some diamonds in the rough for the Wii. I wouldn’t mind Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2 or MGS4, but I’ll definitely take SSBB, Zelda, Trauma Centre, Madworld, Mario Kart and Super Mario Galaxy.

Blue Shift - Its only really overrated when compared to OP4 and HL1. If you went into that game with the same expectations as the previous one, then you would have been very disappointed. It was only overrated, however, by extension from its big brothers.

Left 4 Dead 2 - CENSORING IS THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE.

Condition Zero - Didn’t we agree that all CS games were overrated? I did have some fun with 1.6 back in the day though…

San Andreas - What was more disappointing for me was the content of the game. Aside from barely understanding what people were saying (yeah, that’s right, I’m just way too white fo’ that shit), the whole eating/working out thing was a pain (NO, I will not tap buttons to work out in a gym) and I did about 10 missions before giving up in frustration at seeing my loyalty meter still sitting at zero.

Haha, could have just left it at that.

If you have a PSP, then I suggest getting the Monster Hunter Freedom games, specifically Unite… They’re kind of a console mimick, but I consider them to be even better in some ways. Make sure you have a friend to play it with, though.

The point of having a console game made portable is… Well, it’s so you have a console game that’s portable. Doesn’t really matter if it’s slightly worse, it’s portable.

And the touch screen is different, sure, but as I said a few posts back, it’s never really added anything different.

Oh come on. The graphics weren’t even bad for 2004, when you consider the fact it was a PS2 game and it was completely packed with features. Also, since when did graphics matter so much? :hmph:

They matter, at least to me, if they don’t look good for the year they are being released in. Compare Far Cry, Doom 3, Half Life 2.

Yes they are bad because it was ported from PS2, but they don’t get any better due to that fact.
The game itself is not bad, but IMO still overrated.

They are not even as bad as you are making out. Maybe you think graphics matter, but they really don’t.

Eh, yeah. None of my friends know about it, and when I had one play it, he said that it was just like every other FPS he’d played. I told him that he had it backwards.

QFFT. San Andreas was a fucking masterpiece. Yes, it is ugly, but so is Half-Life by today’s standards. Is that overrated too?

QFFT? Also, I agree with the above too posts, you don’t need great graphics for a great game.

games were better before graphics mattered, final fantasy 7 is still my favorite game to this day and it was made in 1997.

FF7 is an overrated game. It’s a very good game, to be sure, but people act as if it’s the most fantastic thing in the universe.

He either means “Quit Fucking Fucking Talking” i[/i] or “Quoted For the Fucking Truth.” Most likely, it’s the later.

My list:

  1. Half-Life
  2. Half-Life 2
  3. Half-Life 2: Episode 1
    4: Half-Life 2: Episode 2
  4. Half-Life: Opposing Force

Haha, just kidding!

Oh my, you’re so original.
