I completely agree, I’m just saying it’s very well doable if they make an MMO or something. Morrowind was tiny, you just moved very slow until you got your stats up higher.
If they continue TES as a single-player series, I would probably prefer to see a single province rather than all of Tamriel.
Damn, now I want to play it again lol.
Apparently they are thinking of making the next Fallout an MMO. It is certainly doable to have a game he size of the world, lets just hope they have no glitches fast travelling (in Daggerfall the map was twice the size of the UK and on one mission there was a bug so you could not fast travel to the other side of the map and instead had to walk.
I’m surprised that it took such a long time before CS appeared in this thread.
I’d say:
CS 1.6. This game should have died when CS: S was released.
CS: S. Sucked even worse than 1.6
WoW. No need to explain.
Halo. It’s fun, but not that fun.
Pretty much anything for the Wii.
Oh and 6. The entire nintendo DS system.
I used that one three times before I put it away until I bought a m3i Zero. The games are just not worth paying for.
oh, I forgot that was a game
wat
First off: Statement + Evidence = Argument.
Second: The point of this thread is to post games that are OVERRATED.
Just saying “Wii games” doesn’t count because everyone knows that (almost) all Wii games suck big monkey balls and are for the most part just crappy toy or movie tie-ins.
Also, the DS is not a game. Nor would most people consider it overrated. It is what it is, a portable gaming system. I didn’t like it much either, but just because you don’t have fun with something doesn’t make it overrated.
/nerdrage
Wii games aren’t overrated, because the overwhelmingly vast majority of them suck.
I agree with everything except this. The DS is a great system for a younger audience and there are a lot of decent games that anyone can play with friends over the wireless and enjoy.
Being able to play multiplayer with only one person actually owning the game is a huge feature.
Or you could get a PSP and not be lame.
Are you one of those people who bitch at CS because some gmod maps require it? I already said before ITT that CS isn’t overrated, maybe CS:S is, I just play it for the improved graphics… I’m just saying, don’t hate it if you can’t play it.

The PSP is the worst console I’ve ever had. Ever. You’re talking about no good games, the PSP has pretty much none whatsoever. I agree that a lot of the games on the Wii suck but there are quite a few that are really good. The DS is also extremely awesome.

And… I think that’s it. I’m sure there are more, but that’s all that I can think of…
Oh well. You can also play PS1 games on it, so add a few of those and you’re set for a long road trip (unless you’re stuck on all of them, then you’re fucked.)
i only use my psp for emulators and homebrew games
Exactly. Chinatown Wars is also on the DS. The Loco Roco games are somewhat fun so that makes three games. Didn’t know you could play PS1 games on the PSP, though that would make the Wii Virtual Console count as well.
Chinatown Wars is also on the DS and is also worse. Also, despite the fact that you can emulate every console up to the N64/PS1 on the PSP, it has some fantastic games.
In addition to what Johnkiller said, there are the Tekken games, the Monster Hunter games, the GTA stories, Little Big Planet is meant to be almost as good as the one on the PS3 and the Sega Mega Collection is ace too.
Also, the DS is just a poor quality machine: the touchscreen doesn’t really add anything to the games, unless you’re playing Warioware: Touched (which is fucking awesome, I’ll admit) it’s just a gimick. It’s also got extremely shoddy speakers and runs pretty poorly as well.
The issue with the PSP is, of course, that most of the games are just stripped down versions of their console counterparts. GTA, God of War, Gran Tourismo, whatever, they’re just the same old games on a smaller screen. The console doesn’t add anything to the gaming experience, except for portability (which, as I will explain, it misses the point of completely).
Now, the advantage of being able to play games on the move is, of course, a plus. You could probably take your laptop for about 30 minutes of gaming, but you can’t very well lug around your entire Xbox 360 and TV while you’re on the go. That’s where the whole portable gaming niche is supposed to exist, but the issue with the PSP becomes duplicacity (not a word, but it means where you duplicate your existing game library on both portable and normal gaming machines). Why on earth would you buy GTA for PSP when you can spend a comparable amount of money on the same game for either a console or a PC? It’ll undoubtedly be a better gaming experience, and any more money it costs for the game can easily be made up in money saved on not buying yet another gaming console that does nothing but poorly attempt to emulate the standards of its bigger brothers.
And emulators? So what. Emulating games on a PC (or Mac for that matter) is far superior to emulating them on a hand held console. True, emulating portable games on a PSP is good, but that’s basically saying “instead of playing games that were designed for the PSP, go play games that were designed for different console 10 years its senior in lieu of finding a fun PSP game to play”. If you’re running a DS you can run any GB/GBA on the thing natively, and there are plenty of titles for the DS that are ridiculously fun to play.
The reason that I think the DS wins the ‘war’ hands down is because the PSP tries to be, if you pardon the cliche, the jack of all trades but the master of none. It tries to be everything from a portable media player to a web browser, but isn’t nearly as good as the iTouches/iPods of the market, or the relative competitors of any of those markets. And, of course, it tries to be a gaming platform, but doesn’t do anything except mimic what’s already been done on the Xbox/PS3/Wii, just on a smaller screen. And before you say “well that’s the point of portable gaming”, its not. The Gameboy always provided a completely distinct and different experience from playing on an N64 or PS1. The games were completely different to their counterparts on the big gaming consoles, not just because of hardware restrictions but because Nintendo and the game producers realised that the entire gaming experience is completely different on a hand held console. That’s why Nintendo wins and Sony succeeds at nothing but rehashing an old formula on a screen that’s too small for anybody to care about.
The reason the DS is the winner for me is because its cheaper, its different and its fun to play. Everything from Zelda, Scribblenauts and The World Ends With You benefits from being on the smaller screen with a touch pad. Its hardware isn’t up to scratch compared to the PSP, but I’ll take the cheaper price and innovation over brute strength any day.
I can tell this coming from someone who hasn’t really played a DS much because the touchscreen makes a huge difference.
In a lot of situations the touch screen works better than a traditional joystick. I have Super Mario 64 for the N64 and for the DS, and it is significantly easier to control on the DS once you get used to it.
I own a DS, so you might want to fine tune your psychic abilities.
Also, loony, being able to emulate that many things on the move is fantastic: I have some of my classic PS1 games on there (something the PSP can do even without hacking), some awesome GB games, some Megadrive and I’m planning on getting Mask of Majora too. It’s something you can do on the PSP and hence a plus point for the PSP. Simples.
The “mimicked” games are still of a very high quality. If you were expecting a massive new twist on a popular franchise, well, you’re not too bright. It’s those games with a little bit of a difference and a drop in visual quality.
Your point about the Gameboy providing a different experience verges on the ridiculous. It is down to hardware limitations, nothing else. Look at the sonic games, they’re just ripoffs of the Megadrive versions. Also, it doesn’t have to be completely different on a handheld, as the wild success of the “mimicked” games on PSP show. Also, I’m not sure why you’re going on about a small screen. Considering it’s handheld, the screen is enormous. And considering we’re comparing to the DS, well… It’s rather an odd comment.
The DS isn’t cheaper in terms of the console on its own, and it’s far, far more expensive in terms of the games. The Zelda games are awful on the DS (I’ve finished the first one and played some of the second), I’d much rather just emulate the old ones. Scribblenauts is a nice idea but is essentially god-mode throughout. The World Ends With You seems to be a very tight game, I must admit, and though I don’t like the combat, it’s only my preference.
not owning a ds vs. not playing a ds much is quite different. there are some games out there that would just plain suck without a touch screen (rhythm heaven ds, anyone?)
and yeah the psp has a huge screen for portables. though i heard the DSi XL came out.
