5 - Crysis: Don’t get me wrong it’s a real good game, but we are talking about over rated games here and Crysis was getting scores from some publications between 98% to perfect scores. While I really enjoyed Crysis as a great game, it was not even nearing perfection. 98% implies only the smallest flaw possible in the game, and there was a couple notable flaws with the game.
4 - Word of Warcraft: While it is a very well designed game, and addictive as hell you gotta admit that this games popularity has gotten a little out of hand. Granted as a MMORPG it’s unmatched, but by now can we just get over ourselves and hope blizzard can make something new? Starcraft2 better be damned good, as I really think the WoW effect looks to have had a horrible impact on the style of DiabloIII development.
3 - The Sims: This game has always been a glorified version of those virtual pets that circulated as a fad some years back. I have no idea how this could be considered a worldwide sensation. Again I admit it is a bit of a cute idea, but it’s simply not that great of a game.
2 - Fallout 3: It may be more than just ‘Oblivion with guns’, but personally I found that a game I paid 50 bucks for and had totally exhausted most every aspect of the game as both good, and bad male and female characters in such a short period, then asked to pay 10 bucks for a half assed add on that was initially broken…game of the year? No damned way. Good, I’ll give it that. But I mean c’mon…the anticlimactic ending to the storyline was a perfect synopsis for the whole game. The giant unstoppable boss character at the end of the game was on your side? How is that a climax…sit and watch a robot kill people for you…how exciting.
1 - Halo Franchise: I’m sorry to offend any fans, but halo is a ‘meh’ fps at the best of times. Personally I think it’s popularity stems from people accepting lower quality first person shooters on consoles back in the day and now people are pissing themselves because there is the most minuscule improvement in each game. Innovative and groundbreaking it is not. It’s not up to the standard of most average FPS games we should be seeing now, and do see on the PC.
Those are my picks and my reasoning. Feel free to disagree, but you aren’t going to change my opinion of 'em.
