Your Top FIve Over-rated games

;DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

You’re one to talk about stupid sentences.

Nevertheless, clearly you’re a fanboy and can’t overlook the series’ boring assed game mechanics, personal preference aside, it’s undeniable that there’s not much to the series except for flash.

The so called “freeform combat” was marginally better than Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks which was utterly abyssmal. At least DMC had decent graphics.

Play any of the reborn Ninja Gaiden games, then come back and tell me DMC is so godly.

You intentionally ignored the question. Did or did yo not play the whole series to call it overrated ?
And no im no fanboy, i did play only dmc 3 and 4, and they were awesome, and dmc4 has the best charcter models of this generation, and probobly will have to the next dmc ;]

Different strokes for different folks. Just because you don’t like games like that, doesn’t mean it’s not good.

I wouldn’t consider myself a fanboy, but I’ve had great fun on the DMC games. Sure, the story isn’t great, and all the characters are a weabo’s wet dream, but they’re just plain fun to play.

I wouldn’t say they were button-mashing either: to do it well, you’ve got to vary your moves which can take a bit of skill.

Also, Blue, you pretty much are a fanboy if your only response is “OMG, u havn’t plaied it, so u don’t know :ddd;d”.

^

Well, that’s just it, different strokes for different folks, that’s what this thread is about (see the weird CoD4 v Halo debate a few pages back). But yeah, I really didn’t feel I needed to vary the moves all that much, you could probably get through the game with three of the main combos and reliance on sky shooting (except for the boss fights, naturally).

I didn’t intentionally ignore the question, I figured that it was at least implied that I played through the series in order to have my opinion (yes I’m actually one of those people who give games a chance). Mind you I didn’t completely play through 4, but played enough of it to get bored with it fast, which a “new” character (virtually carbon copy of Dante) just couldn’t fill.

As for the best character models in a game, I don’t know about that one, Capcom outdid themselves with Resident Evil 5 where models are concerned I think.

Notice I didn’t bring up the storylines. No way I could argue that when I cited NG as the game to check out, that storyline is a huge WTF?

I think all the people saying Half-Life 2 is overrated is comparing it too much with its predecessor. In fact, no matter how hard Valve tried they could never make a game that huge fans of Half-life could like more than the origional.

Think about, we often love games that we grew up with, seen released, played and enjoyed, kept the nostalgia. So nothing can live up to expectations.

But if they had of kept the setting, all them guns ect. you’s would all be saying it’s too similar!

Anyway Resident Evil 5 for sure. It was so repetive, boring and I just didn’t get into it. Lucky I rented it.

Exactly. So I’ll admit I liked Call of Duty 4 at one time, and you

(you as in anyone)

Oh, no, not again. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m back baby!

Edit: Nah, screw this thread. I just wanted to say hi and leave for good.

B’ah, I wasn’t totally serious  .

After reading the thread about the latest Chronicles of Riddick, I definitely have to throw in Escape from Butcher Bay. It was actually surprisingly impressive.

Wow, i’ve just played Fallout 3 and it actually is Oblivion with Pew factor, and the in game characters act very similarly to those you come across in oblivion, except they’re called Raiders instead of Bandits.

Just thought i’d throw that out there and see what happens.

(Seriously though, i did play it  )

I’ve played Fallout 3, and I could say that it’s suffering an identity crisis, between pleasing the Oblivion fans, and the original Fallout fans. It supposed to be an RPG and FPS, but it failed at both, maybe this goes to show that combo genres have to be done right, or else they’re just really bad, run-of-the-mill games.

I have never played oblivion but have to admit I really like Fallout 3. The first parshal play through got boring but then I started playing it like it should be played (explore…a lot and find cool little things) and now I’m enjoying it very much.

Anyway I would give my two cents on the games I think are over rated but it will all end up in flaming. Besides we all have different opinions on the types of games we like and don’t like. I like Call of Duty series. I like Metal Gear Solid. I like Devil May Cry. I like Final Fantasy. I think (IMO) Half Life 2 lived up to the expectations.

I don’t like Resident Evil after number 2 + Code Veronica. I don’t like Halo. I don’t like the new Battlestation Pacific. I couldn’t get into Stalker Clear Sky. Red Orchastra was too slow paced for me but I might give it another chance soon. I was hoping for faster paced gameplay in Empire Total War.

You get my drift now. I have my opinions, you have yours. I’m not a fan boy although I love HL and MGS (somebody port 4 to PC PLEASE!!!11!!1one!!1).

I’m bummed that I didn’t get to finish MGS4, I thought it was great as far as I got, but that really wasn’t all that far (after beating the funky tentacle woman thingy). I could tell the story was going to go into some weird places, but I was at a point where that could either have been really good or really bad.

Sons of Liberty was fantastic though (never played 3).

Compares to other popular FPS’s

Nope, still dissapointing.

MGS3 imo was actually really good. I was very skeptical at first when I saw it. Then a year or two after it was released I finally got it and loved it.

InterloperX you schould have writed taht in teh first palce, it sounded like you just called it overrated since you dont liek button mashers ;] But im honestly suprisedyou dont like it, meybe now they wont blow your mind, but when it came out it was the shit ;D

I agree with you on the original DMC, that game was pretty solid at the time, and set the standard for what great 3D action games should aspire to.

@ SteveO, if you’re a fan of the MGS series, exciting (censored) news (mostly a tease) from Kojima.

Already (censored) saw it. Overly (censored) excited. :stuck_out_tongue:

Killzone 2 sucked ass.

BTW BioShock was awesome. There’s nothing like killing people with a freezy wrench that has jacked up damage and restores your own health when you use it. You can become so overpowered in that game…it really makes you feel like a man. The story rocked also. Bite me :stuck_out_tongue:

IMO almost anything exclusive to the PS3 is overrated. They get killer reviews and then they just don’t live up to the hype. I don’t have a 360 anymore (loved it) but I still play some games on the PS3 and most of them blow.
