Wii U Discussion

Although I’m sure most of the members of this forum are mainly PC gaming oriented which I am as well, but I enjoy a little sit down in front of the TV with controller in hand every now and again.

I figure the Wii U is Nintendo’s venture back into hardcore territory, and I’ll gladly welcome it.

This threads primary purpose is for:

• General discussion regarding the console and it’s games
• Release speculation for both the games and console itself
• Technical shit
• Whether you’re interested in purchase or not
• News Articles regarding the console
• Etc.

I’ll start with some interesting news. At last years E3, the controller was showed off and I thought it was generally great, but could be better. One of my worries has been fixed, they’ve transitioned back to extended analogue sticks instead of the awkward circle pads showed at the show floor in June last year.

Also there’s rumors of a Star Fox/Metroid crossover game in development by Retro Studios (Donkey Kong Country Returns/Metroid Prime Series). I’m interested in that as well.

TL;DR: This thread is about Wii U[/SIZE]

I’m sorry, I thought this forum was for adults.

They will have to have some fantastic Nintendo only releases for it to make any sense for people to buy imo.

New Mario and Mario Kart
New Supersmash bros
New Zelda
New Metro
New Star Fox

Zelda can be written off as a possibility on release tbh as Skyward Sword is so recent. Mario will be a push.

If they just have regurgitated titles we have seen on the Xbox 360 and PS3 a few months or even weeks before it just won’t sell even if the control system is “revolutionary”.

Will buy but not on release if I don’t see at least two of the above with it.

I honestly don’t think the Wii U is a push towards hardcore. The touch screen controller is another means to make non-gamers feel comfortable with gaming.

Although I do think Nintendo is certainly trying to push for causal gamers to become core gamers so expect at least some good hardcore titles and a lot of transitional mechanisms (stuff like they did in Galaxy 2 with silver stars).

Joking aside, Nintendo really needs to expand their exclusive portfolio by creating or buying satellite studios like Sony has.

Enough of crappy shovelware.

:o

They need new IPs and they’ll have to reboot/reimagine their existing ones.

Super Mario Bros: Origins

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Revenge

Metroid Warfare

A squad based shooter in the Metroid universe could be interesting.

Waiting on the price tag before making a decsion on if I want it or not.

The touch screen controll looks expensive and I’m guessing it will be easy to scratch like most screens nowadays.

The Legend of Link: Revengeance.

Also, please no squad shooter unless your playing as someone besides Samus. She’s a lone wolf. And about the Starfox thing… Wait, wolf… “Can’t let you do that Samus!”

I wanna see current IP’s reworked in new ways. Like as someone mentioned earlier, maybe a spinoff of Metroid with squad based mechanics, or a 3D Donkey Kong platformer that plays like a beat-em-up or something.

On a side note, I wanna see some art style changes. I’d love a new 2D Metroid Adventure using the UbiArt Framework. Good God that would be something.

Nintendo X Ubisoft X Retro.

As long as Ubi just lent the Framework, and Retro collaborated with original Super Metroid/Fusion designers on the actual game, that would be amazing. Call it Metroid Dread and set it after Fusion and you’ve got a killer app.

I’m probably skipping this upcoming console generation. That being said, if the Wii U or the other consoles impresses me enough I might give in. It’ll have to be more than new games for their main IPs (though a new Zelda would tempt me a lot), and I would end up getting cross platform stuff for PC. Not sure what would convince me to buy this but there’s probably something.

That’s much better than what I was thinking of when I saw the announcement. (Better Off Dead)

This^^

The only one of the big three that hasn’t either shown something I don’t like, or had rumors about some bullshit (that I’ve read) is Sony. In the end, it all matters what games come out that don’t come out on PC. I’m gonna try and steer my consolefag friends towards PC gaming, since like 3/4 of them have nice gaming PCs that they use for shit like Maple Story only.

The main reason I’m staying away from the Wii U is the accessories. I don’t want to feel like I need to buy a full set of Wiimotes+nunchucks, plus a full set of Wii U huge expensive screen controllers, plus whatever else Nintendo puts out that’ll be necessary.

Nintendo needs to stop expanding current series that have been running since the 1980’s and start making new games, don’t get me wrong, I am exited for sequels to most of the stuff that has been listed in this thread, but I’m just saying Nintendo needs something new and fresh, (insert a blood gory Nintendo FPS here) oh and they also need to get their damn games on steam damnit. :freeman:

Edit: That stuff aside, consoles are not really my field of gaming anymore, as I am a pc gamer these days, I am likely not going to buy the Wii U or new Xbox or PS4, because lets face it, console gaming is doing bad, has anyone noticed how long it took for the Xbox 360 and PS3 to sell good? New consoles will just make the companies lose money, so I think they should just stick with updating current consoles.

The controller screen seems impractical to me, most people have more than one television in the house, if someone wants to watch tv while you’re playing a game then you just dismiss them to the other room, why put so much effort into something that was never a problem to begin with?

Not sure if this has anything to do with the Wii U but I’m kind of interested.

  • Rayman Legends, The Avengers, Assassin’s Creed 3, Just Dance 4 are all on Ubisoft’s Wii U schedule, with Killer Freaks from Outer Space set to arrive weeks after launch.
  • There are currently multiple versions of the console with developers

Two year old graphics card, but I suppose this is a Nintendo console. Supports DX11 and will run AC3 at 60fps at 1080p. Nice.
