What Game Did You Play Today?

I played some Dark Souls. Beat Artorias, and flung myself against Manus a couple dozen times. I never got very far, even after rescuing Sif.

I have since learned in my time on Overwatch that I really like Bastion and D. Va, and that I did not like Tracer (well I mean there’s one part about her I like) or Lucio as much as I thought I would. Also the game’s real fuckin fun

I got a Battle.net account just to try out Overwatch. It’s like vanilla TF2 mashed together with League of Legends style asymmetric balance. It’s quite fun.

Mostly maining Mei, with a hefty side dose of D. va and Reaper.

Reaper feels like he was just made for the uber-edgy crowd. It’s like a parody of actual internet game communities but then they act like he’s hot shit anyway.
Which, he’s still fun to play as, but y’know

Genji is my favorite class by far. I love being an ambush character. Also he’s a direct counter to Bastion, who is one of the cheesiest/low skill classes in the game. Deflect is just such a ridiculously fun ability.

My favorite was when McCree tried to use his ultimate on me and I deflected it back at him for an instakill. Also headshot a Widowmaker with her own bullet.

Finished MGS4 and started Rising.

I think if anyone ever asks me to explain myself when I say something is “fucking awesome” , I’ll show them this game

My modded Fallout 4 screwed up back in April. I got it working again so now I don’t have to make a new character for Far Harbor. Very happy about that!

As for what I’ve played recently, I’m wrapping up the Automatron DLC for Fallout 4.

currently jazz jackrabbit and duke nukem old ones

Doom, every day since launch and loving it.

Yesterday, after 2 years I reinstalled Half-Life. I know right?

I am playing it on hard, and the game looks a tiny bit harder than it used to be. Did they improve the AI and increased marine hp? I don’t know. Eitherway, most of the areas look… small now. Starting with the tram station of Sector C test labs. Also the features of the maps which make no sense, are painfully striking.

But it’s still a great game to play with. To think of it, Half-Life is going to be 18 years old this year. 18 years… wow.

Stalker: Clear Sky. In Limansk now and it’s certainly starting to go full “on rails” now, I know I’m close to the end.

The game itself isn’t terrible or anything but I can see why people disliked it, or things about it.

Nope, unlike HL2 which at some point received a patch with tons of fixes (in 2013 I think), HL (or better said the GoldSrc games) were left how they are. There haven’t been any updates for them since late 2013 (post-SteamPipe) iirc.

You’re probably thinking you do since you haven’t touched it for quite some time. Also, what ,map features, are you talking about?

Meanwhile, getting back on topic, been playing Shadow Warrior Classic Redux for quite a while now. Absolutely lovely, and the 2013 reboot is just as great, albeit radically different, being a reimagining of the original rather than a mere remake. SW2 is scheduled for release this year too, so we’ll get more Wang.

I’ve started a new Dark Souls run. I got stuck on my last character trying to get the DLC ending on NG+. That character was a STR-type. This time I’m going for a DEX build with Pyromancy on the side. So far I’m flipping and rolling around enemies and wielding the Uchigatana.

You have to kill the first hollow shopkeeper to get it though, which I still feel bad about.

I had to do some research to figure out how to do this right, and I discovered that I missed a ton of content in my last two playthroughs,

including two whole zones, Great Hollow and Ash Lake. This is a hell of a game.

God, fuck those fixes. The bridge area where you play chicken with the train in your buggy at the end of the chapter “Highway 17” doesn’t work anymore. You have to turn the car around and drive away and it’s totally lame. I think the only place you can still play chicken with the train is the original Xbox port of HL2.

I know, but it’s something very old.

It was changed with HL2’s OB update released back in 2010, when the buggy’s handling and stability was greatly improved (at least according to the log, I honestly don’t remember how it drove before, in terms of stability, not speed), but this also meant a drastic reduction in speed, most notably the turbo’s power.

It was never fixed. Valve is aware of it, as it was reported like crazy by the community. But they were either lazy to do some more tweaks, or it was simply done on purpose, in which case, I wonder why.

Honestly, the buggy never handled all that well. Pre OB it was more prone to rollovers but that’s what made it interesting to drive. You could get a TON of power out of it, but you had to be careful when and where you boosted.

Finished Stalker: Clear Sky some time last week. Call of Pripyat is the last game and I started it but…I don’t like it thus far. I might just take a break and come back to it another time.

For now I’m started/continuing Borderlands 1. I’ve had the game for a few years now but never got around to it because I was constantly having issues with it and generally gave up too easily. Decided to edit the ini files that resolved most of the major issues I was having with it and decided to persist through the first mission and it’s actually not too bad thus far so I’m looking forward to continuing.

A little bit of DooM here and some Fallout 4 there (haven’t gotten any DLC yet, but I’ve heard good things thus far). Funny thing about those DLC’s, the Far Harbor one (or Bar Harbor for those who know where it is) is one I’m looking forward to since I actually have lived near the actual location and have been to it several times. Can’t wait to see how they compare.

I’ve also been playing some Call of Duty 2 and 1. They’ve aged pretty well actually, considering the latter is like, I think, at least a decade or more old?

Played some Painkiller Black Edition. Not really into it though.

That explains a lot. I thought I had just gotten worse at games when I last played through HL2 and it took me ten or so tries to turbo in front of the train.

I can report that it is still possible though, just ridiculously hard. Before it was something that with a little luck and skill you could pull off first time, even without knowing about the train in advance (my first ever play through I didn’t quite make it, but very nearly), whereas now with multiple tries and perfect timing you can just do it. :\
