What Game Did You Play Today?

Just played some Streets of Rage 2 last night. It’s probably my favourite beat 'em up, with Warriors of Fate being a close second. I also played some Metal Slug 1, my second favourite Run 'n Gun behind Gunstar Heroes.

Tried out a few games on my new GPU. Got to Yantar in Lost Alpha and got a quest there, but didn’t play anymore. Got a bit further in that mountain level in SE3. Also screwed around in Sleeping Dogs a bit. I don’t know why HDAO kills framerates on Nvidia cards so much. With everything maxed out (including aa, which is 2x ssaa) I never drop below 60 fps and my GPU usage is at like 60%. If I turn on HDAO my GPU usage goes up to 99% and I start getting framerate drops. I know it’s AMD’s thing but still.

Super Smash Bros for 3DS! Already unlocked all of the characters. My current favorites are Kirby, Mega Man, and Samus. Starting to enjoy playing as Greninja.

More Super Metroid. While I enjoy this game, I can’t help but feel kind of frustrated by some parts of it. For one, while exploration seems to be a central part of this game, a lot of it isn’t so much exploration as it is “shoot and bomb (or x-ray) every wall, floor, and ceiling to find the hidden passage”. It can be really hard to figure out where to go or how to proceed - compounded by the fact that there is little to no explanation of what your items and upgrades can do or how to use them. I’ve already had to use a strategy guide to find one item. Another issue is all the traveling; in addition to scouring every nook and cranny to figure out where to go, there are lots of one-way doors and paths, so once you get into an area and can’t find anything, you have to take the long way around just to get into a room right next to you. I understand the desire many developers had to pad the length of games back in the day, but really?

Fortunately the core gameplay is fun with lots of abilities and upgrades to unlock, and the graphics and music set a really creepy atmosphere, sort of like a cross between Aliens and Nausicaa.

Hard Rain in L4D2. I’m pleased with how possible it is to take a katana, a medkit and nothing else and do just fine. I suppose that’s something of an achievement, since I normally hate using melee weapons.

Alien Isolation.

I can’t stop playing this game, which is nice because with A:CM I couldn’t wait to stop playing that game

Blockland. This is a game I played for most of my childhood and absolutely loved.

It’s kinda sad to see what’s happened to it. It’s still going, but the community isn’t what it used to be. Return to Blockland - a community-made add-on curating and social site - shut down, which is incredibly sad, and makes it really hard to find add-ons. They also removed all the maps with a shader update, so no more Bedroom. :’(

What really sucks is that the developer more or less said he has no interest in continuing it, and that he’s only continuing to support it at all because it makes him money.

I can’t describe how painful it is for me to see a game I loved so much as a kid circling the drain like this.

More Smash Bros. 3DS.

I just got Nehrim, the Oblivion total conversion mod that everyone says is better than Oblivion, installed, and played it for fifteen minutes or so before it froze. In fairness, that’s about what I would expect out of vanilla Oblivion. It seems alright, but it’s mostly just made me want to play Oblivion again. I’m not letting myself start a new game right now because I’m building a new PC in a month and a half and I don’t want to mod everything up just to have all of my saves get wrecked when I try to port them to the new machine.

^What he said.

More Smash Bros 3DS. Having way too much fun with that game. Tried out [COLOR=‘Black’]Bowser Jr. in Classic mode. He’s really fun to play.

Started a new game in Metro LL. I don’t know what keeps causing it but if I don’t play the game for a while when I start it up again everything will be really zoomed in so you can’t see anything. I guess alt tabbing and going back in fixes it, at least it did last time.

You mean like the FOV changing itself?

That might be it. I only ever see the opening screens because there’s really no way to navigate the menus how it is. Not sure. Like if I have Afterburner’s display on when it happens, like a corner of one of the letters will take up the entire screen. That’s how zoomed in it is. Shame I didn’t take a screenshot.

It’s a bit cheap that you just can’t damage the alien.

Budokai Tenkaichi 3 with Bruce. SSJ4 Gogeta is as broken as he is in GT.

You can with the right weapons, you just can’t kill it

Also it kind of fits the cannon since in Aliens they are firing explosive tipped armor piercing rounds at them to kill the aliens effectively (the pistol they use in that movie also takes a full clip at point blank to kill one, and it’s probably stronger than what you get here) and you also don’t exactly want a round capable of penetrating things on a space station.

Played Wolfenstein TNO a bit more. Finally have enough vram so the game can use as much as it wants.

World of Tanks. Trying to complete the Operation: Fury checkpoint missions. Got the German, US, UK and USSR ones done so far. The China checkpoint is going to suck - I’ve only got one Chinese tank (Type T-34).
