What Game Did You Play Today?

Dead Space 3.

It’s pretty good. The weapon crafting is fantastic. One thing that really bugs me, however, is the amount of backtracking involved. The environments are just barely interesting enough to keep me happy when I’m making steady progress; when you have to go back though half the level, it rapidly becomes agonizing.

Furthermore, the voice acting and story seems to be of a bit lower quality than in DS2. Even Isaac’s VA, at times, seems flat and uninterested. The game in general seems to be a lot less polished than DS2 was. At one point, the game spawned a bunch of enemies on the far side of the map from me, and for the entire time it took me to get over there they were repeatedly screaming the same sound effect, seemingly at full volume.

Incidentally, if anyone wants to play coop with me, I’m free most of Sunday.

I liked it just because of Dishonoreds general gameplay.
But overall, as a story and whatever, I was like ‘eh’.

I got the 2 DLC’s during the summer sale. Not sure if I want the third and final DLC, I’ll wait till more people play it I guess.

Stupid gargantuan thing killed me in Unreal again. I was dodging his rock throws, so I have no idea what killed me…

They explode into smaller pieces, so the debris might have hit you from behind if he threw it close to you.

Yeah, I feel the same.

The new levels were kind of cool, but the final act played out on the same area as the main game, and it ended too abruptly. I loved Dishonored, and had heard that KOD was equally great, but I was sad to find it wasn’t. At all.

Circle strafe. Just circle-strafe and keep the stinger on it the whole time, like I did.

Sniper Elite V2…surprisingly better than o expected. It’s loads of fun when you challenge yourself.

Also @TGP:
The rocks tend to bounce back unexpectedly and smash you. It happens to me a lot.

Well I was trying to play Calendra’s Legacy, one of the highest rated Thief fan missions, but I really don’t like it. The first part was fine but I really hate missions that force you into undead confrontations, which is what the entire second and probably third part are all about. Calendra’s Cistern was much better I feel, even though it’s rated lower.

Red Faction Guerilla. Way way way better than I remember it being. Weapon selection is awkward as fuck though.

Dead Space. Despite it not being the best control wise on the PC, I like it thus far. Plus it was only $1 with a bunch of other games so thats coolio.

Dead Space 3.

Whoever designed the second snow beast fight needs to be fucking shot.

It took me I think 6 tries to beat it because I kept running out of ammo.

My shit keeps getting wrecked by Titans in Unreal. I’m at the Sunspire temple right now. I remember hating this level the first time I played it. We shall see if that repeats itself this time around.

I feel like I missed a couple levels earlier in the game. Maybe they were later than I thought they were? I shall find out…

I decided to go through Metro 2033 again before I move onto Last Light which I just bought in the sale. I’m playing on Ranger Easy and fuck it’s hard.

Fallout: New Vegas.
Going through with a new playthrough, all my standard mods active, but with crosshairs off and “True” ironsights on for a change.

I still don’t really like how they’re animated, the switch between “hold” and “aim” is, well, instant rather than animated, and the fire animations are just a little pop up, at least for the 9mm and Varmint rifle.

Going to keep going with it, though, because I probably need experience with ironsights in games. Real sights, not shitty, zoomless holo-tech scopes.

Watching vids of SoC, really want to play it again.

I noticed the elevator shaft you climb down in the beginning of Blast Pit in Black Mesa (if you choose to forgo the elevator ride) looks almost exactly like the rusty elevator shaft you have to climb down in Lab X16 in Stalker, though that’s probably a coincidence.

Far Cry 3. A reinstall fixed most of my problems, but now I’m too slow to save Oliver. Literally, 1:40 to go half a kilometre and clear an area or two.

Dead Space 3. After repeatedly failing to kill the snowbeast with the harpoons, I looked I up, and apparently there’s a widely-known glitch that makes it impossible to complete the TK QuickTime event for that section of the fight.

It’s a shame, because I was actually looking forward to finishing the game, you know?

Just one thing: How the hell can you RUN OUT OF AMMO in Dead Space 3? I always end up carrying 100++ clips, and occasionally even 250+. CLIPS. NOT ROUNDS. Since I fell in love with the automatic assault rifle with hydraulic-engine-hammer-thingy underslung, it’s kind of hard to run out of ammo. Especially if my AR kills stuff in 5-7 hits, and anything that gets close enough gets torn to pieces with the melee attachment. Effectively turns the secondary fire key into melee key. I think I’ll be putting that same underslung bashing nuke of a hammer on my shotgun, too.

yeah im playing that and looking forward to it being over too

SoC with LURK 1.1.

Man, it feels so good to be playing the first STALKER again. I thought I would be numbed to the horror aspect of fighting the mutants in this game like I am with pretty much any other game with scares, and since I’ve played all of them quite a bit.

Ran into the first bloodsucker and I actually got the drop on him when my gun jammed and I had to run while hearing the raspy breathing getting louder and louder.

This game still scares the shit out of me, and that makes me extremely happy.

It’s bullshit that LURK removes artifact usage though, I didn’t use them at all on my first playthrough and wanted to so I had to get a mod that re-enables it, but there’s no inventory belt for it so you have to unequip them in strange ways.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
