What Game Did You Play Today?

Just finished what’s out so far of Underhell. Best game I’ve played all year. Nice mix of action and horror that does both things really well and while the story is pretty confusing at the moment it’s nicely done as well. Just wish it ran a bit better but that’s one of the only issues I have with it. It’s also long as hell. There’s apparently going to be 3 or 4 chapters total, but I’ve gotten 15-20 hours just out of the prologue and chapter 1.

I started playing Saints Row 2. Why is the main character Australian? Is that something I could change? It’s really jarring.

Doom 3, heavily modded.

Vacationing on the red planet has never been so much fun.

Dead Space 3

Found myself a third coop buddy a while back… And this one is actually willing to COMPLETE the game with me!

So, yeah. Chasing Danik towards the Machine, got the Codex before we called it… For Ellie!

I’ve got Dead Space 3 still factory sealed. Hope to get to it before Xmas. How do you think it compares to the first two?

I only got it a few weeks back, never played second, and got too scared three chapters into the first…

Feels more like the general “HURR DURR I BE SAVIN’ DA GALAXY/HUMANITY/MY ASS/MY LOVED ONE” rather than a horror survival. Which considering the fact Isaac is pretty much the most experienced Necromorph cleaning service in the entirety of humanity, isn’t too unpexpected. Jumpscares don’t happen that often…

But it still gets scary when I “live into it”, which is exactly the way I love playing games. No point playing if I can’t get in the story, and pretend I’m the character for half an hour before I go on with my own life.

In CoOp, it helps to have a good buddy, who won’t try to buddyfuck you every two minutes, or yell in the mic how bullshit something is, or how he expected that jumpscare, which is why the game sucks…

I played Dead Space 3 as well.

Has anyone else ever noticed how the little text on loading screens in this series is just a constant stream of shoutouts to science fiction? It’s almost ridiculous.

Been trying to continue my play of Shadow of Chernobyl with Zone of Alienation but it keeps crashing. I played for like 2 hours today and wasn’t able to get from the Cordon to the Bar.

Never got around to read/play/see enough sci-fi to really notice them…

And I never really got around to properly read the loading screen before the text disappeared…

But there sure seemed to be quite a few sci-fi things there…

It says things like “deflector polarity” and “flux capacitor”.

Shadow Warrior.

Holy shit. Holy shit.

The katana in this game is godly

^Looks like it from the videos I’ve seen. Does it seem to dynamically cut, as in where the sword goes is how it cuts? Or is it a bunch of premade animations that just play really close to how the slicing works?

I fixed my crashing issue in Stalker and got to Yantar. The AI for the scientist I had to escort stopped working and I had to leave him behind. I then proceeded to get an underbarrel grenade to the face from a soldier as I was trying to get to the scientists’ bunker.

Seems like it’s mostly just a very detailed gore model that lets you slice up body parts that your sword hits with animations to compliment each.

It’s really fucking detailed though. It just feels so natural.

I wish they had implemented the same cutting tech Metal Gear Rising has for this one.

I will be going back and forth between Saints Row 2 and Minecraft all day.

Maybe if it does well enough they could put it in a sequel. That would be amazing if they did.

Shut off the brain scorcher in Stalker. Also got some guy his rifle, after dying countless times to stupid military people who were in the tunnel for some reason. I love in the mod I’m playing how you can drop your gun. Like if an explosion goes off near you or someone shoots it out of your hand. And you can do the same to the enemy. At one part I was on top of a construction setup looking around and an enemy came up the stairs and shot the gun out of my hand. I ran quickly forward, picked my gun back up and blew his brains out over the wall. Felt like it was in slow motion. So satisfying.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I get the same feeling every time I splatter someones brains on a wall, or on anything for that matter.

However, earlier today while playing Doom 3, I wasted a zombie and his blood/brains flew onto a screen completely concealing the data displayed on it. Unfortunately, I had to enter a code into this screen in order to unlock a secured door. Took me a while, but I loved the idea that I had to deal with an unexpected problem, which was the result of my actions.

Saints Row 2, though it keeps crashing on me so I have to save often.

The obvious solution is just to kill more zombies until decal culling cleans off that screen.

Mindless slaughter solves all sorts of problems.
