Been trying to install my old copy of Star Trek: Elite Force all day. Installer boots up, gets to 100% and it goes away but runs in the background. I’ve googled it and they say it take 20~45 minutes to load. Go figure
Just finished Far Cry 2.
Feels a bit like the tone does a 180 in the last mission; ninety-two percent of the game is somewhat fun, if not oppressive, then in the last mission, you have to murder every open-quotes “buddy” you ever met, kill the leaders of the now-merged factions and choose between blowing yourself up and putting a bullet in your head.
I have no idea what’s going on in Underhell but it’s still really cool. About to start Cryostasis too.
Got Persona 4 running under PCSX 2 today. 60fps, looks spot-on.
…until I entered my name and hit start. BOOM. Crash.
Okay, it’s working now.
Playing Underhell Chapter 1.
Avoiding zombies reminds me of avoiding the supernatural enemies in Thief:TDP, and it’s pretty tense as opposed to smashing their heads in with the pipe.
^I just killed all of them . I wonder how many chapters the mod will eventually have. Because right now I’d say I’m at least close to 8 hours of gameplay with only the opening and chapter 1.
Besides Underhell I played some more Stalker. I haven’t gotten more than halfway through the game in quite a while. I forget what Yantar and on’s really like. Hopefully Steam doesn’t update my game again like it did recently.
Managed to track down “Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem” at my local mom and pop used game shop. I love being able to find such rare shit out here.
Strangely I just played some Stalker as well. I’m already in red forest moving up to the brain scorcher though.
Yantar was still great a second time through though. Still got that same “I want to turn around” feeling from being there
So I bought a merc suit in Stalker today and didn’t think anything of it coming with a gas mask. I forgot that the mod I’m playing has gas mask overlays though, so now I have part of my gas mask obscuring part of my view and I don’t have enough money to buy a new suit. And this one doesn’t have good enough radiation protection to get to the next area for some reason.
Doom 3, using a newer game engine and HD graphics update package, found here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cbadvanced/files/sikkmod/
The Sikkmod is nothing new, but the new engine and .exe file are. It very noticeably increases framerates, especially when graphic settings are maxed out.
Cool, I might try sikkmod again with soft shadows and POM if that does provide a good fps boost
Artifact hunting.
You can get by radiation with meager suits if you have a handful of fireballs on your belt.
Which of those files do I download? All of them? I’d love to try out Sikkmod.
Heh, I actually got past the radiation wall by taking a few swigs of vodka and running through it. Ended up having to fend off a group of boars and a chimera on the other side while drunk.
That sentence alone makes me want to play Shadow of Chernobyl.
Yes, all of them. There’s not a proper readme provided concerning installation. Files Doom3-HD-Update.7z.001, 002 and 003 have to be directed to your existing Doom 3 game folder, over righting some existing files. BACKUP your originals. The Sikkmod .exe file should also be directed to install in your Doom 3 folder. It includes Sikkmod v1.2 for Doom 3 and v1.1 for the Doom 3 Ressurection of Evil expansion pack (both the latest versions). As well, it includes the hi-res texture packs from Wulfen and Monoxead, and 6th Venom’s HD menu.
You may also want to grab Tets1’s Wulfen textures update pack as well, to get the full HD treatment, located here:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/wulfen-texture-pack/addons/tets
Forget about the DOOM 3 BFG Edition. With these addons, the original Doom 3 has never looked or played better!!!
Enjoy!
I have played Dead Space 2, and I did go back and play 1. DS1 is great - it’s really good scary. That said, I made the mistake of going on “hard” difficulty, which it turns out is actually really hard, unlike 2 and 3, and you can’t change it once you’ve started.
I’ll probably go back to it eventually, but for now I’ve been playing some Red Faction: Armageddon. It’s really good.
Everyone whines about how it went away from the series’ “roots” as an open-world game, but that’s absurd. This game is exactly like the first Red Faction. They’ve even got the shoot-through-walls rail driver. Hell, Capek is in here.
State Of Decay
This kinda shit needs its own thread. Cuz this is good. Where did you find this?
edit: whelp, I’m getting nothing but blackscreen. I guess this is what I get for going with the cheap ATI option; nothing works with my hardware. Now I really wanna know where you found this so I can see if there’s anyone else with the same issue in a forum thread or something.
Just Google Doom 3 mods. There’s a ton of mods made by the community. Most can be found here:
https://www.gamefront.com/files/listing/pub2/doom-3/
which is related to this website
https://doom3.filefront.com/. For some reason, you need to refresh this page a few times before it displays the current page.
Sikkpin’s Sikkmod thread is here: https://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=24172
Wulfen’s HiRes textures thread is here: https://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=24708
Monoxead’s HiRes textures website is here: https://doom3-hr.com/Main_Eng.html

An ardent Doom 3 modder is Dafama2K7. Besides his own mods, he’s taken over and updates popular older mods released by others. His own specialty is improving shaders for Doom 3, Prey, Quake IV and the Riddick games. He recently became a member at GameBanana: https://gamebanana.com/members/1334951
Other eye catching mods of his are Full Shadows (latest release is v1.9) and Self Shadows (latest release is v2.0), found here amongst his other numerous mod releases on FileFront: https://doom3.filefront.com/developer/Dafama2K7;23734
If one takes the time to search for and sort through all the mods that are available, both gameplay and graphics wise, Doom 3 plays great and looks truly amazing, even though it was released over 8 years ago.
EDIT: @ xalener, I stumbled across the new engine here, post #14 by Skinner https://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=373125
