What Game Did You Play Today?

Fallout 3. I finished the main quest line, and the ending was fantastic. Usually it’s someone else who makes a heroic sacrifice in a video game…

I’m nowhere near down with the game yet, even in terms of quests, but I should be typing up the promised rant soon about what I did and didn’t like.

Trying to play Dark Messiah again but I can’t get it to work for shit.

The steam version ctds on level change to the third level, and the dvd version won’t let me start a new game (I choose difficulty but nothing happens when I try to start, just sits at the menu)

Got Descent 3 again. I’m pretty rusty at it though

Okay, if I’m starting a game of Metro 2033 for the first time, would you recommend Ranger Easy/ Ranger Hardcore? I’m not adverse to dying a few times, and if the lethality is something on the order of Rainbow Six, then I’m somewhat prepared. The hud in the screenshots on the wiki looks kinda fugly.

Ranger Hardcore. They screwed it up in Last Light but it’s the best mode in 2033.

Make sure to grab the Volt Driver in the first bandit camp if you do that. You have to charge it up, but it uses a very plentiful type of ammo and it’s really effective.

Played more Fallout 3. I made it to the point where I’m overpowered really damn fast.

Stuck on the helicopter battle in Peace Walker. I found Kojima though and have him on Mother Base.

Oh yeah, the helicopter is a bitch. At this early stage of the game, you don’t have enough Fultons to extract everybody it dumps, so you could probably just shoot down the chopper. If you have two rocket launchers, equip those, and have smoke grenades on hand to stun ground troops so you can take them down with CQC chaining. Also make sure to bring a Supply Marker to give yourself enough rockets to do the job.

I’m only really extracting rank Cs and up and the occasional D. Don’t really feel the need to extract everyone I see. Is it possible to capture the helicopter like you could with the tank? I tried just killing the guys and it didn’t work like the tank did.

Yeah, it’s possible, just very hard on a first play. You have the Nagant yet? You’ll need it to snipe the pilot. He only reveals himself when everyone else is down. There’s easily 20+ dudes that drop from the chopper, too. It’s a tough fight without battle armor.

Oh you BETTER cover those up as spoilers, I ain’t even close to finishing the main quest. I think I’ll start with Mothership Zeta now. Unrelated, I’m quite proud of myself - two of my FO3 mods have made it to the hot files in the Fallout 3 Nexus; the first one was some food label retextures, and the other, my diner house mod, is still currently in the hot files :3

About games, I haven’t played anything these last two days (been focused on mah books) but I have watched Animal Crossing: Wild World being played. I must be a terrible person because I don’t see the point of that game…

“Kane and Lynch: Dead Men” appears to be working perfectly on my Windows 8 machine.

This should be taken as a clue as to how fucked up the game and the OS are, since my Vista laptop SHOULD have been able to run it fine, but couldn’t.

Skyrim.

I think I may have overestimated the crafting potential of the game. I wanted to be a sneaky archer person with light armor etc. So at like level 2 I made me some leather armor and upgraded it to “fine” quality.

Fast forward 10 levels and I still have the same armor. Am I really going to finish the game looking exactly the same as I did at level 2?

Oh how I want a game like Skyrim that goes “Spore” all over the crafting system, where you can design your own armor based on various components that you can resize, rotate and position yourself (within certain limitations, obviously).

Also, I have some staff in my inventory that is valued at 1200 gold, but I can’t seem to sell it to anyone. Boo!

Elven armor bro.

Call of Pripyat sans Complete mod

Definitely feels more refined than the previous two. Makes me actually want to play through it again.

Armor of Intrigue might let you do that with a set of armor, somewhat.

Have you tried Farengar Secret-Fire at the Jarl’s palace in Whiterun? Belethor (at the general goods store in Whiterun) would probably also buy it (he buys anything), but he’ll give you a shitty deal.

I’m playing Skyrim as well. Just reached Blackreach with my latest character. I’ve been down here three times already with other characters, but it never stops being amazing.

Complete isn’t that good honestly. IMO it’s better, especially for SoC, to stick to getting the ZRP which fixes more problems than complete does anyway (since complete uses an older version of it), weather and graphics mods, and then get the reanimation mod for it so the anims don’t look so odd. For CoP you can get atmosphere and absolute nature and it makes the game look gorgeous.

Clear Sky is an exception though. SoC may have glitches but it is playable without mods. Clear Sky is broken as fuck and infuriating to no end without them. Honestly I played CS vanilla on master and unlike SoC, I really don’t want to play it again. CoP is definitely the most polished out of the box of the three, though I still feel SoC has the most compelling atmosphere.

papers please is a rad game

Clear Sky was a load of shit. The first 2/3 or the game was a bit of fun, though nothing special. And then you delve into the nightmare ending that was just fuck after fuck after fuck. So many badguys coming to kill you, with no armor replenishment. So many hazardous areas that you can’t see, and only know they kill you when you are dead.

I never want to play Clear Sky again.

I have the same feeling towards CS. Honestly the only parts of the game I enjoyed were in Red Forest and that one sewer part with the controller.

The game itself was way overpopulated and devoid of a lot of the original atmosphere save for Red Forest. And it shipped with a faction mission system that literally repeats the same faction “event” every 30 seconds sometimes.
