Booker Dewitt was violent, yeah, but then how many people did you kill during the game? His personality actually matches up pretty well with the attitude of the average player, which really helps counter the story-gameplay dissonance a lot of FPS’s suffer from.
The killing he did was logical. I just hated him storyline wise until nearly the very end. He was just a prick to dear Elizabeth.
On the plus side I felt ‘something’ for him. I didn’t feel connected to Jack at all in Bio 1 to be honest.
I’ve been mostly playing Borderlands 2 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and I bought F.E.A.R yesterday. All of the above I find quite enjoyable.
I switched back to Unreal last night between UFC fights.
Fallout 3.
I could write a long-wind rant about the pros and cons, but for now I’ll just say that this game is really, really good.
Incidentally, I’ve run into a really nasty bug where I crash every time I enter the Tenleytown/Friendship metro station. It’s keeping me from reaching the GNR building, so I can’t progress through the main quest. Anyone have any idea how to fix this, or if there’s an alternate route?
(Incidentally, did you know that the Metro stations in this game are actually just like the real Washington DC subway stations? It’s a nice touch, given how different the setting is in most other respects.)
Incidentally
The Secret World. A lot of it.
It’s probably one of the best MMORPG I’ve ever played. The combat system is fun, the quests aren’t repetitive, the investigation missions are really fun and challenging and the sotry is really good. And it’s F2P.
Bah, I hate it when I accidentally use the same word twice accidentally.
The first time you step put out of the vault…I was mesmerized.
Just about to start the final act in MGS4. Acts 4 and 5 are the best acts in the game.
I have to drive a car up onto the train platform to get to that pigeon? Motherfuck!
I have very fond memories of Fallout 3, and without it I would have never gone out of my way to play Fallout 1 which turned out to be an absolutely fantastic experience.
Whenever I play fallout 3 I put in the Fallout 1/2 music though, it makes the game a hell of a lot more atmospheric. (Actually, one of the reasons I went back and played Fallout 1 was because I got a music mod that does that and I was amazed by how damn absorbing and how much scarier it made the game, a lot of the default music is just kind of there IMO, with the exception of the awesome title theme)
It was pretty impressive, Wandering around the bombed out town, staring at the landscape, finding three frag grenades in a random mailbox, getting pelted by pop-ups for the pointer quests from half a dozen DLCs…
And, holy shit, the elementary school. I was not expecting that.
One of the rare games I wish I could experience all over again since I have missed on so many things on my first playthrough…and having a PC that could barely play it didn’t help either.
More Dishonored. I keep having to force myself to progress. Otherwise I keep reloading it and doing things differently, using different tactics, powers, assasinations, etc etc. It just has so much potential to do things another way (albeit the enemy AI being a bit limited).
Tried some Borderlands. For some reason my eyes have trouble keeping track with the game without nearly squinting and eventually getting a minor headache. I’m fine with FP games and whatnot, but something about BL just really messes with my head.
One thing I noticed is the 2 early weapons you get are just so insanely inaccurate. You’ll be standing dead straight in front of someone, try headshot them, and it misses.
Dishonored to me was: roughly half an hour of sneaking, then blinking my way through the rest of the game. I once wanted to do it again without blinking, but never got around to it.
These days, I’ve been mostly playing DayZ (and met a “familiar” BMS face on a random server, but I have a feeling he wants to kill me, so haven’t met up yet).
Went back to Unreal for a bit. Just got the rocket launcher. The game is a lot more bleak than I remember it. I’m sort of enjoying it still. I will go back to GTAIV on Wednesday (unless I get knocked out of tomorrow’s poker game really early).
WAT. Act 4 is a huge nostalgia chapter, and Act 5 is a slog through a constant Alert phase plus quicktime events. Granted, that one where you mash Triangle is pretty intense the first time.
Acts 1 and 2 are my favorite because I can actually sneak through battlefields, as advertised.
I never got an alert on the final chapter. I got to the boss without alerting anyone. You have to fight enemies there. Maybe that’s why I liked them though. Vising Shadow Moses again and actually getting to pilot Rex was still amazing. Would have liked to have done more than fight through a hallway and fight liquid though. I hope that MGSV has full on mech battles in its open world. The microwave room and fighting Liquid was still cool too.
Anyway I finished MGS4, with a successful no kill run at that, and started Peacewalker. Getting back to 60 fps makes me glad.
Edit: Although yes, the sneaking through battlefields segments were really cool as well. I hope we get more of that in MGSV.
Edit 2: I’m also downloading KOTOR 2. Heard the game pretty much needs mods. I’m getting the Restored Content mod right now. Are there any other mods that would be recommended for a first playthrough?
