Starting to get into ArmA 2’s single player component, after trying out the tutorial missions to warm up to the controls. The actual infantry combat is highly reminiscent of the original Ghost Recon (open level design, occasional night missions requiring the use of NVGs, highly lethal combat), which I like.
EDIT: The SRP didn’t cause it, an optimized shaders mod caused the long load time, guess I’m not using that for CS
I wanted to try Borderlands 2 after a certain relative of mine overwrote my game, but Jesus, even on the lowest graphical setting it still runs at, like 5FPS.
Finally figured out that Stalker CS’s AA is fucked to hell. 4x AA on DX10 was giving me 20 fps.
What did you try to run it on,Commodore 64?
Playing Clear Sky.
Entered the area near cordon, and had to find a way through. I installed Atmosfear, and the night is really dark. So I approach the bridge, expecting the military to control it like SoC, but Stalkers control it so I approach it.
Apparently stalkers don’t like mercs, so they start firing on me, and I end up running away up the train tracks, and I jump over the barbed-wire fence easily enough, after I loose them. Then I check out that abandoned factory nearby to heal up because I was bleeding, and then after waiting for a while to heal (had no medkits, and bandages don’t heal you like in SoC) I hear talking outside, I look, and a bunch of them are moving in on the factory, and I had barely any health and was low on ammo so I had to get out of there.
With the really dark night, the pulsing ambient music, it made it feel like I was really running to survive
Tried playing some SoC, but the atmosphere is so immersive I get scared real quick. So far, I’ve only played the first few missions and haven’t gotten through the tunnel with the electric anomalies.
EDIT: Just played a bit more, got to the 1st underground bit. Amazing game.
It takes months to really become comfortable with the controls, but it’s worth it.
Gonna play some HL:Source, see how different it is from BM again. Maybe some Need for speed later as well.
Started my quest to clear all my unfinished games on Steam and PS3 throughout the year without buying any new ones in the meantime (excluding free PS+ games). Not necessarily reach 100% completion in all of them, just complete the main campaign from start to finish.
Certain games are excluded from the list, like Gran Turismo 5, which requires a great deal of time and dedication. Dark Souls too. Sports games, arcade games and MP only games don’t count as well.
I’m starting with the Spyro trilogy on PS3 and after that I might play Resident Evil 1.
I’ll use this thread to keep a log of the games I have completed, unless you guys prefer to create my own thread for that.
Finished Unreal the other day and started the expansion.
RTNP has an amazing soundtrack.
My two favorite tracks from that expansion

I seriously want this guy to compose another game
I still gotta play RTNP. Played a couple of levels a while ago then got busy with school and stopped.
More STALKER stuff, this time Clear Sky:
I absolutely LOVE the lighting effects in this game.
Not the best image to illustrate it, but lightning flashes and bolts all produce their own shafts/rays and shadows
It looks particularly amazing when you are in a building with windows and the different flashes are throwing rays around the room through the windows.
Not quite, but hardly a gaming PC. That said, I don’t actually have the money for a proper one.
Here’s better shots of a lightning bolt’s lighting:
I love how unlike CryEngine’s sun shaft effects, these are independent of the direction your facing so you can see light coming from anywhere.
It’s sad that Stalker games are so poorly optimized, because they have amazing technologies in them.
On seoncd playthrough (I think) I did the game on hardest difficulty to meet some challange. Gotta say Dead Space 2 is really awesome!
What did I play today? WoW, and Black Mesa (( and I too menaged to blow up the security guard with that table in OC, hehe ))
Actually Call of Pripyat is supposedly really well optimized in DX11. (And SoC doesn’t have the spiffier effects so it runs fine)
Based on what I’ve heard it’s really just Clear Sky, and it’s stupid little things, like how Sun Rays quality has no visible difference from low to medium to high, yet high drops your FPS by about 40 frames, and AA - though 2x AA seems to run ok, I prefer the extra performance with it off.
Seriously, I did a screenshot comparison when I was testing them out and reading stuff at tweakguides, and there is literally no difference between low and high sun rays, except low runs a million times better.
CoP is actually similar to how you describe Clear Sky. The sun quality has really no difference between low and high. I think the AA is broken in CoP too. Or at least it doesn’t work on everything.
I’ve heard that CoP’s DX11 renderer is fine but the DX10 renderer suffers from the same problems as CS
