What Game Did You Play Today?

lol, I remember my first time playing I couldn’t even find an inn at the city and I died about 10 times because god damn bandits just randomly find and attack you at night in a city.

Still, It seems fun, but it was just painfully hard.

I forget how Arena works, but Daggerfall has a “steal” mode instead, but that didn’t stop me from forgetting I was in steal mode and accidentally pickpocketing a guard when I meant to ask him for directions and getting murdered instead

Played some more Republic at War mod.

I decided to play on easy and the CIS are still hard as fuck. It seems like they either start off with a fuckton of ships or they’re able to shit them out at will. They’re always invading my systems. I defeat one god damn fleet of capital ships and another comes out of Bumfuck, Space Egypt to rip me a new one.

Also, CIS ships seem to be overall more powerful than Republic ships. Acclamators and Venators aren’t nearly as powerful as they should be.

It’s a good mod, but it needs a few more modifications to really make it shine. The models and overall amount of work put into it is awesome, but the imbalance of units really sticks out.

That’s my rant for the day.

After buying it on sale and then letting it sit in my library for a while, I finally decided to try out Cave Story+. I have yet to finish it, but man this game is not what I was expecting. It seemed so cute and innocent at first, and then WHAM! your heart strings get some violent tugs. Why does so much of the best Japanese stuff have to be so depressing?

I’m holding out hope for at least a somewhat happy ending…

Oh and aside from all that the music is incredible, the gameplay itself is really fun, and the “HD” graphics are nice without sacrificing that old-school look.

Ok this game is getting ridiculous. How am I supposed to beat the end?? Am I really supposed to just be that good??

Assassin’s Creed III. There’s lots of stuff I like, and a few things I don’t.

^ No, it’s really hard. From what I hear. Most of my ninja games are Shinobi related, though.

Depends. Did you make it to Hell? Or have you simply gotten to the point where you have to beat the doctor, located on the island’s surface?

A considerable amount of Counter Strike: Source with a bud. I have a spare Steam account which I use when I want to play some CS:S locally without actually forcing my friends to buy the game if they don’t have it. So I opened the account up to him and we were tearing it up with the bots, because it’s more fun that way – you die less. Plus, I have access to a multitude of community-made maps which particular servers may or may not have in their cycle. Either way, I was having a good time.

I think I’m almost to the end of the first Penumbra. I really like it. I think that Frictional is working on a new IP while Chinese Room is working on the next Amnesia so that’s exciting.

Played some really good NS2 matches today, on both alien and marine.

The last match we did okay, but we got pushed back and cornered into server room on tram, so we held a desperate last stand for quite a decent amount of time using what little res we could muster.

Despite our best attempts, they pushed through and 3 people, myself included, hid under the stairs and tried to kill as many as they can. It saved our lives, but we still lost of course.

I was talking about fighting Misery, the Doctor, and then the triple-boss after that. However, I found out I had missed some stuff, [COLOR=‘Black’]like saving Curly, getting a few weapons and life capsules, so I started over and got all that stuff, which ought to make the end easier. Still not looking forward to it, and I don’t know how I’ll beat the bonus to get the best ending, but I’ll guess I’ll just have to try.

By the time I found out I had missed some considerably important events by making the “wrong” decisions, I had become attached to the machine gun, and had made my way through the majority of the game. I decided against starting over. Plus, I found that the story had much more of an impact when particular characters died. It wasn’t something I was expecting, breaking my heart as a beloved companion passed. Not too many games do that. The direct result of specific actions you make in the game will determine the fate of your companions. Whether you intentionally make those decisions selfishly or not, you either reap the benefits, or have those important to you pay the consequences for your actions.

So I didn’t end up making it to Hell, because it actually makes the game more difficult than it already is. Though the reward for keeping your PolarStar is by far the best attainable weapon in the game. I didn’t keep the PolarStar.

I’ll eventually replay it, but recently I have been playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive for PC. It’s free to play this weekend. I’ve had it since release, but now is a good time to brush up on my CS skills on some scrubs.

Btw, beating Misery, and the Doc’s multiple phases are entirely possible. I’ve had quite a bit of experience with these types of games, specifically MegaMan, which made it easier for me to handle the first ending. Not to imply that it was easy, in fact, quite the contrary. Though, it’s definitely not impossible, but rather straightforward and by-the-books.

That’s acceptable, since the machine gun’s recoil allows you fly and bypass a better part of the game.

Been playing Thief - Deadly Shadows today. Once I got over the noticeably clunky movement (which is unfortunate compared to how precise and tight Thief 1 and 2 controlled) I actually got to liking it quite a bit. One thing that annoys me immensely though, is the frequency of the loading screens, and the load times themselves.

Looking to see if any .ini tweaks will reduce them.

Precisely. I was relying quite a bit on that mechanic. At least until I acquired the jet-pack, which turned out to be another “wrong” decision.

I played some Bit.Trip Fate for Wii last night before I went to bed. I was too tired to deal with Death, but I’m getting better at anticipating the trajectory of those little Bits of hurt.

Finished Penumbra Overture. Pretty anticlimactic ending (it continues in the next game apparently though) but the game was really good.

Why on earth are you playing the tennis game and not the tank game? They’re both pretty boring, but the tank game is by far more entertaining.

That’s the thing, I felt all the emotional impact when characters died. But not knowing I have a decision to make is, I feel, an annoying move to make for a game developer. Perhaps they (or “he” in this case) want you to go back a second time, be more thorough and be excited when you find a way to save someone or get a better powerup or w/e, and I can respect that. But I have a few issues with that. First, from the type of game it is, I hardly expected to have these Bioware-esque options, or even for people to die. A warning would have been nice. (“WARNING: PEOPLE DIE AND YOU HAVE TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT STUFF THAT MATTERS”) Second, some stuff (well, at least one thing) is so obtusely hidden from you that it’s really hard to discover it’s a decision at all. I mean, trading for the machine gun is obviously your decision, but the booster 2.0 thing? How are you supposed to know to do that, even on repeated playthroughs? Every other part of the game rewards you for exploring, and this one rewards you for NOT exploring. There’s not even any kind of hints, like there are with the Polar Star gunsmith, so that you know you can do something different on the next playthrough. And saving you-know-who isn’t the most intuitive thing to do either. You have to make sure NOT to talk her at that certain point, because that triggers the boss battle which ends with her death. Then you also have precedents where you couldn’t do anything, so if you missed it once and go on with your game, you may not realize you have that option until you see it mentioned somewhere online or play again, perhaps much later.

Anyway, sorry for the rant but that’s just my take on it. The game is so good I can easily overlook my minor grievances.

More Thief: DS today. I’ve learned to avoid loading my game as much as possible to prevent waiting, so that’s resorted in me playing a lot more carefully, and also using a lot more flash and gas bombs to escape.

Still, having a blast. Tweaked the game a little bit with a hires texture pack, some UI changes, and removed the lockpicking UI element so now lockpicking is based on listening and watching the tumbler instead of looking at the bottom right of the screen (I find it a lot more fun that way).

One particular moment was while I was exploring Overlook Mansion, I came across a locked chest in a well-lit room with powered lights I couldn’t extinguish. It was quite tense attempting to unlock the chest with my back turned to a patrolling guard, so I had to work quickly and time it right.

I haven’t killed anyone yet outside of what I was forced to do (Pagan mission requires you to kill someone as a sacrifice) so I’m hoping to keep it that way.

Valid points. I do in fact, agree with you, however I believe it does add to the story when particular characters die. I think the Creator expects multiple playthroughs, especially when there’s more to the game if you aim to make all the “right” decisions. Course, with the way the secrets are hidden, the only way to find out is if you dedicate all your time to figuring out every asset of the game, or simply look online for directions.

I have a ton of games that I have yet to play. I really would rather just move onto the next one instead of replaying just to get a different ending, and I’m pretty thorough with my games.
