By the time I found out I had missed some considerably important events by making the “wrong” decisions, I had become attached to the machine gun, and had made my way through the majority of the game. I decided against starting over. Plus, I found that the story had much more of an impact when particular characters died. It wasn’t something I was expecting, breaking my heart as a beloved companion passed. Not too many games do that. The direct result of specific actions you make in the game will determine the fate of your companions. Whether you intentionally make those decisions selfishly or not, you either reap the benefits, or have those important to you pay the consequences for your actions.
So I didn’t end up making it to Hell, because it actually makes the game more difficult than it already is. Though the reward for keeping your PolarStar is by far the best attainable weapon in the game. I didn’t keep the PolarStar.
I’ll eventually replay it, but recently I have been playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive for PC. It’s free to play this weekend. I’ve had it since release, but now is a good time to brush up on my CS skills on some scrubs.
Btw, beating Misery, and the Doc’s multiple phases are entirely possible. I’ve had quite a bit of experience with these types of games, specifically MegaMan, which made it easier for me to handle the first ending. Not to imply that it was easy, in fact, quite the contrary. Though, it’s definitely not impossible, but rather straightforward and by-the-books.
