we should make half-life free for now

Nope. That doesn’t seem obvious to me. Since Valve already takes so damn long to put games out on the market, the world will have ended twice before this plan is entirely finished.

He’s trying to say that since Black Mesa is free, Valve should make the original Half-Life free, for people with source games. That way, more people will be exited about Black Mesa, as they have both played Half-Life, and know the capabilities of Source.

Now THAT makes a little more sense. But still, every one has a point. It’s only like 5 american dollars, right? Or is it 9? Either way, it isn’t gonna hurt your credit to buy it outright. I mean, free is nice, but when its less than 10$, it is just kind of… well, i don’t have a word for it.

Fixed.

Anyway, I’m surprised that there was a free weekend or whatever for Portal, but not for Half-Life. O_o

Any more people get exited from black mesa, and the banlog will overflow.

Half-Life is already free if you’ve memorized the serial, you only need to remember one and it seems to work with all the other versions (w/o steam)

What?

There is far too much derp contained in this single thread.

IT’S GONNA BLOW!!!11!

Half-life shouldn’t be free because of several reasons.

1] BMS isn’t completely free. You still need to own a Source game.
2] Half-Life is the work of Valve, and BMS is the work of the developers. Each has the right to set their own price point, and each chose theirs, which leads me to my next point:
3] BMS can’t cost money legally, AFAIK. Some copyright issues or whatever, since this is pretty much the HL story

I can definitely see HL being free in the future, though. Rockstar released some of its classics for free, and DOOM eventually became free, and Valve doesn’t have anything against releasing quality free games (see: Alien Swarm).

Doom isn’t free. The source code is, tho.

Rich with fat.

Gabe is rich in three things: Money, HDR, and cholesterol.

“Ding! Fries are done!”

To be honest, if he made his post with sense, it would be a good thread. Who would buy half-life when they can get the same game with better graphics and loyalty for free?

fixed

That was to celebrate Steam on mac release, since Portal was the first game on steam-mac.
Half life still ain’t released for Mac, only HL2 :stuck_out_tongue: .

Makes sense to me, since a Mac user would never dare to play Half-Life with its graphics nowadays.

No offense, but if you buy a mac youre an idiot. For less than the price of a mac you can get a PC thats waaaayyy faster and has better graphics.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
