Really? the experts I’ve heard talk about security said that out of Linux, Vista, and Snow Leopard, Vista was the most secure, linux was a close second, and OSX trailed. Of course, this only means that he was able to compromise OSX in 30 seconds while vista and linux both took him under a minute…
Although obviously you’re going to get fewer (if any) viruses on mac and linux, because the userbase is so small compared to that of Windows.
Hello! I used to post in this forum one or two years ago, and for some reason my account wasn’t here, so I created a new one, and now I’m back
I tend to disagree. Kubuntu required much less set up here in my PC than 7.
Also, user-friendliness is not the only feature you want in an OS.If you have Windows, you need to download anti-viruses, anti-spyware and stuff like that, which is pretty much boring. Not to mention that you have to download the installer of every program you want to use. IMO, that is the main reason why Windows is insecure, so 7 still is less secure than I expect OS to be (most viruses are installed this way, and you give admin rights to every installer). Of course this changes if you are careful, but it still doesn’t let me comfortable :S
The only reason I have 7 installed here is DirectX 10 (my graphic card does not support DX11), for other things I use Kubuntu.
Well, I don’t want to start a flame-war, so :zip:.
OTOH, Windows 7 is, in my opinion, the only real OS from Microsoft.
Why not? What if you want to use a program from Windows XP? My sister was pretty upset trying to run a program for XP in 7, until I taught her about the compatibility mode.
Another possible reason to change to 7 is to use a 64 bit OS. As much as I know, Vista 64 bit sucks even more than 32 bit, but that is not sure with 7 as much as I know of. You’ll want a 64 bit OS if you have more than 3Gb of RAM.
Windows 7 is just version 6.1, Vista is version 6.0.
You can have problems with drivers whose support ended with vista.
Also Microsoft Agent is not part of windows 7, some programs need it to run properly and it’s part of vista (and for long time there was no way to get it for win7 x64).
I’d stick with vista.
