Windows 7 is alot more stable than Windows Vista and XP in my opinion but, Vista dosen’t crash as much as you guy’s say it does, Vista usually crashes once every two months for me. Vista can also be very unresponsive at times as well. Windows 7 is also alot safer from viruses compared to XP and Vista. I think you should definitely get Windows 7.
I’m pretty sure that 7 is not significantly more effective than vista, but OK.

I was mostly referring to LINUX, since you can’t run on OS X on a PC. Linux is free, so its really an option he should look to if he’s struggling with Vista and his parents won’t let him upgrade to Windows 7.

Linux is far from an actual option when the users is already asking for arguments to get 7. Linux is the most basic of OS’s, everything it does, pretty much involves you telling it what to exactly. Not really the most user friendly platform known to man.

Actually, no. Ubuntu and the likes are just as user-friendly as Windows.

I understand your point, I was just trying to qualify my statements slightly. If he can’t convince his parents to get 7, and Vista is still giving him issues, all I was saying is that he should consider Linux, given that it’d definitely run better on his computer.
Vista runs fine, I just want to upgrade, as I would much prefer 7. Also, my Parents don’t seem to think drivers and compatibility stuff matter (don’t the drivers auto install anyway? :S)

I’ve been using Vista for about 2 years now. I never had a single crash, it never froze and it runs as fast as XP, if not faster. What am I doing wrong? 
What’s true for one is rarely true for the majority. I think its fairly safe to say Vista had a lot of problems, and that 7 fixed most of them. I can say from personal experience that performance is much better with 7 than it is on Vista.
Anyway, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it doesn’t quite apply to Vista; the improvements are noticeable and very much appreciated, so I’d definitely check it out.
