Vista vs 7

There is absolutely no difference between a pirated and a genuine copy of windows 7, you get all the updates and extras, even the language of the OS can be changed via windows update.

Windows 7 is amazing. I upgraded from Windows XP (I completely bypassed XP) and I have had only one problem with 7: The run as administrator setting. Many games don’t work correctly without being run as administrator, so I have to manually dig through the game files each time I get a new game and find the .exe to launch it as administrator. Besides that, Windows 7 is awesome.

Why don’t you have an Administrator account on your own computer? There are times where my computer prompts me saying something along the lines of: “You will need to verify Administrative priviledges before running this program”, and all I do is click “Continue” and it runs it.

wat

I will not Pirate my OS because my parents paid for my PC, so they would not let me do so. (and yes I know I bumped this thread after 2 months.)

If you’re a student you can get Windows 7 for £30, thats why I upgraded. Also mention that its less vulnerable to viruses (I have no idea if this is true or not but it can’t hurt to mention it :stuck_out_tongue: ) and that it can be upgraded in place - no need to format and risk fucking up your PC (well there’s a very real chance of fucking it up if you’re anything like me :stuck_out_tongue: )

Eh? It specifically doesn’t upgrade from anything but Vista. Instead, it moves all of your files to a Windows.old folder and installs Windows 7 beside it.

I think its retarded that it wont allow you to do a straight upgrade from Windows XP, even though I’d probably just do a clean install anyway. The lack of a format function is equally retarded, and means that if I actually want to repartition my hard drive before installing Windows 7, I have to do it the old fashioned way.

How can you get it for £30 the cheapest upgrade I found was £65?

win7, student offers here have ended :frowning: At least, you can’t get home premium for £30 like a couple of months ago.

Indeed you are right, thought they had Vista. So there’s an accurate version of my post^

This has ended as someone rightly said, I should really research my posts a bit harder :stuck_out_tongue:

Basically if you had a valid .ac.uk email address they were selling windows 7 for £30. Its available from some places for around £50 for students, a bit of googling will take you to the right place

So cry some more.

Personally, windows.old is better than an upgrade for me, I’d rather have a clean windows/users/program files folder than a new OS bloated with stuff from the old one…

I personally think you should just get a job and pay for the upgrade, if you’re so desperate. Otherwise stick with Vista, it’s got problems but it’s usable. That’s what I did for two years.

That has nothing to do with pirating the OS, even the retail version wouldn’t let me upgrade from XP x32.

Erm, what job could a 14 year old boy get apart from a paper round? I don’t really know my neighbours, the minimum age of emplyment is 16, and my parents wouldn’t give out money for chores.

I prefer Windows 7, I did a clean install.
Buut it thinks my product key is invalid. :\ It’s a completely legal copy; I purchased it from newegg! I tried the slmgr -rearm trick, but it says I have to reinstall before I can do it again. -sigh-

OSX doesn’t use CD keys…

Are you in high school or university/college?

I’m in computer science at my university, and I get two copies of windows 7 professional for free.

Actually, you miss one update, the one that adds the feature that checks if your version of windows is legit, but it’s far from a critical update.

I think I like 7 more than XP. Sure, it’s taken some getting used to, and I’m still learning a bit of it, it’s grown on me.
