Video Game Graphics (PC vs Consoles)

YOU BE TRIPPIN LEAVES

Anyway, I agree about the texture pack. I hate it because it’s like a Doom3/ETQW kinda thing… It makes everything look old and scratched and bumpy. Overly bumpy =/= real. Hence why I only linked to the mods.

Except it’s not, and he didn’t mean it literally.

Damn. When people began putting down the facial modeling and animation from Uncharted 2, I realized that you’re actually all insane. Either that or just lying. The facial animation in u2 was amazing, and no game has ever done better.
I also get the feeling that a lot of you are thinking of uncharted 1 when I reference 2. The difference is a big one.
And saying that u2’s graphics are worse because it runs at 720p, that’s just a thin argument. If your beloved crysis only ran at 720p, would you write it off as shovelware crap and go play something else?
And when I said that u2’s characters used more polys at the max level, I wasn’t saying that more poly’s means better graphics, I was saying that the lod system in u2 is much more refined and allows for a great amount of flexibility in camera placement during gameplay.

My feeling’s on this thread summed up:

Cutscene =/= Realtime Facial Animation. Half-Life 2 even has better facial animation. (With the episodes having RIDICULOUSLY better facial animation.)

Did you ignore the above screenshots? I think you’re trolling. UC2 is an ok game and all, but Crysis looks miles better…

So… Through saying U2’s characters use more polys at max level, you were meaning to say that their LOD system is better and has flexibility for camera placement? You’re fucking stupid. Take your weak, crappy little PS3 and go suck Sony’s dick.

That might be a bit overboard, given the stupidity level of your post, but I consider it reasonable if you take the entire thread into account.

Actually, that IS pretty good (kinda looks like a young Harrison Ford), though it still seems a tad off, a little cartoony in a weird way, but I guess them’s the breaks.

Half-Life 2 still, in my opinion, does the best job with facial modeling and animation. Valve put a shitton of time, effort and thought into that element, and it shows, and really helps with character building.

Haha, no, I meant actual botany courses, plant physiology and diseases, greenhouse management etc. I’ve had to look at plants a hell of a lot for about 4 years straight, and I still have to get an up close and personal view of them all the time, still armed with a decent understanding of what I’m actually seeing.

Par1: It’s a cutscene though, if you want to be like that, Just Cause 2 has great facial animation too- but ingame, the mouths don’t move at all when characters talk, they just move their head up and down.

Par2: Yes and yes.

Par3: Eh same difference.

HL2. Oh, and for the record, PC graphics>console graphics end of story.

OP is an asshole and should be banned y/n

People who say a console is capable of putting out better quality graphics at high performance than a computer have no idea what they’re talking about.

YOU ARE WRONG  (well, hl2’s animation is decent, you were right about that)

What does Cutscene is equal to / equal to realtime animation mean? If you’re saying that the facial animation is procedural, you’ve never seen the game’s animation.
Oh, and I’m “fucking stupid”? You never even gave a reason why having a wider ranged LOD is a bad thing.

Crysis is “supposed” to look miles better. In actuality, it’s just a total of maybe 50 passable plant models thrown onto a map with a bunch of overused light effects and dead eyed characters.
U2 on the other hand is a huge collection of original and beautiful scenery sculpted and textured usually for use only one time in the game, which makes the game’s visuals much less blandly repetitive.
And the characters look great. That’s indisputable.

You’re obviously just pissing your pants frustrated, trying to make me angry.

Have you actually played U2 on a big 1080p TV, Medi?

Game is fucking gorgeous, the art direction alone is miles better than Crysis’.

Just because the PS3 isn’t able to render jungles with thousands of high resolution tiny rocks doesn’t mean it’s not able to run gorgeous looking games that easily rival the overall visuals of Crysis.

Even then, PC graphics>console graphics.

And also, Crysis is for lames who spend a shitton of money on a piece of metal, sand and plastic.
Fucking morons.

You used to be original and witty. I am disapoint.

Get a job you stupid shit. And FYI, this thread is about graphics not money management.

Yes, I have. It doesn’t rival Crysis. Have you played Crysis at a resolution greater than 1024x768, on max settings, with the links I posted in use? There’s no “rivaling” possible, unless you mean the rivaling of the jealous butthurts. This thread is for discussing graphics, not art direction.

Indeed, but implying that console games have generally bad graphics is just plain stupid.

Wow. That’s like saying “This thread is for discussing graphics, not a part of the graphics pipeline that plays an integral part in making a game look visually appealing.”

Ffs… Myst had “great art direction,” that doesn’t make it Crysis.

Now that’s a reasonable argument. I can’t disagree with that.

EDIT: Tycho, it’s been great, but I’m thinking I might just ignore your posts in this thread from now on… They’re so wrong and misinformed that it’s like trying to reason with a brick wall. U2 looks decent. It does not look as good as Crysis that’s (sadly for you,) the cold, hard facts.

Of course not, but simply shunning art direction as if it has nothing to do with a game’s graphics is just wrong.

Oh, butthurt much about your beloved Crysis being rightfully bashed by someone? Or rather, at the fact that you’ve proved yourself stupid enough for spending several grand on a piece of junk? Can’t blame you.

I never intended to please some random nerd on the internet. And lastly, who the fuck are you to tell me what I should do, leave alone the fact that I’ve actually got from my shift an hour ago?

Basically we have one character on screen and two low res characters in the background. All other screenshots have the screen filled with the good looking environment. Get a better screenshot.

Except it’s not.

Art direction = Art direction

Graphics = Graphics

Art direction =/= Graphics
