Video Game Graphics (PC vs Consoles)

That’s definitely one place where Crysis lacks. Half-Life 2 (the 03’-04’ build,) had better facial animation that Crysis.

How come my version of crysis, when maxed, doesnt look this good? :stuck_out_tongue:

Crysis, Heavy Rain, Mafia II, Metro 2033, S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky… just to name a few. There is no way a console game will ever outperform a PC game. Why does this topic even exist.

Because deluded people think that a game running at 1280x720 on a system with 512MB of combined memory will somehow look better than a game running at 2560x1600 on a rig with 4GB of memory and 1GB of dedicated video memory.

Am I the only one that truly hates the fact that the viewpoint weapon model looks like it’s been copy pasted over something that could very well be a photo?

Yeah it does look a bit weird. It looks like they took the screenshot just as the player was walking out of a shadow, so the gun is a bit dark.

Common misconception. Look at the fern near the bottom closely, or the bush to the right. They’re Crysis effects. The grass is a telltale, as well. Look closely. See how it’s cut perfectly at the top of a small number of the grass blades?

I didn’t say or even think it was a photo. I’m just saying that there is an obvious visual difference between the rendered world that could very well be a photo, and the weapons you hold. One of the reasons could be the fact that the world is rendered with depth of field, while the gun is as crisp and focused.

The screenshot was taken in realtime, with 2 mods installed.

Nuff’ said. Those two (if your computer can handle it,) make your game photorealistic. The “Photorealistic” mod exaggerates DoF, though.

I’m hitting up that shit tonight!

I would but it’s 3: 35 AM. I’ve only ever played it with a config, never felt like trying mods.

Luckily it’s just past 5PM here

Holy Fucker of Cunts. That shit is pretty amazing.

So is this a gameplay screenshot? bc yeah. that’s pretty realistic.

You missed this one on your way in.

Too bad no one changed the caves. Those are still fugly in Crysis.

Take the Dear Esther caves and put those in Crysis- then it’s a good game.

As it is I still view it as a tech demo. Aside from fabric physics and better procedural destruction, CryEngine 2 has nothing new that’s impressive, and frankly will be dumbed down and restrictive unless you add mods and configs- similar to what you do to get CryEngine 1 looking great.

EDIT: Double posted… It’s 4:14 AM here g’night. Or morning.

Thanks for the mod links Medavilae, thats exactly what I was looking for. If anyone thinks a console (current or previous generation) can compete with the few previous screenshots, they are in denial.

While it’s pretty obvious that the PC’s will always be able to handle better graphics than consoles (at least in this generation) you have to remember that the big picture is more important than the details. Crysis might step over Uncharted when it comes to small details, but I can honestly say that Uncharted’s environments were far more impressive to me than Crysis’.

First link for the 2GB texture pack, the Crysis 1 download is hard to find. There were Rapidshare links but they’re gone. I have Rapidshare Premium so that would’ve been awesome.

Well, gonna test the Real Lifesis mod now!

I dunno, I think that texture pack could have been better done, since “HIGHER-RES BUMP MAP” does not make a GOOD bump map. A lot of why HL2 still looks good today is because they used their resources very, very well. Just because you make every single leaf look like a crumpled $1 bill doesn’t mean the leaf looks more real.

Then again, due to my career I’ve probably seem more leaves and looked at them far more closely than everybody on this page combined.

I agree totally
