Video Game Graphics (PC vs Consoles)

Bahahahaa… Ha. Been a long time since I’ve seen someone like you.

Also greater polys =/= better. If anything, that means less optimized.

Not to mention, the eyeballs in Uncharted 2 were demonic…

Crysis really doesn’t use bloom much, actually, and there’s a lot of other various light effects because light does a lot of crazy shit while it’s bouncing around and passing through and getting absorbed by all these different parts of the environment. I’m sure U2 had a lot of similar things done in pre-processing, and simply added in textures and whatnot, like Source. Source isn’t terribly powerful in graphics, so sometimes the textures alone are designed to incorporate more complex shadowing and lighting.

Also, you have to keep in mind that a lot of the foliage and natural scenery in Crysis is procedurally generated, so there’s going to be plenty of times where things don’t quite fit well.

And even still, graphics really isn’t where the PC’s truly win over consoles. This entire website is an example of the true advantage.

No.

Even though the graphics DO win over consoles. And that is FACT. :bulb:

Well… lets go again… Crysis’s maps are much bigger than U2’s. Crysis is a sandbox (a linear one). U2 achieved its graphics after improving over the first one (Uncharted 1), just wait to see Crysis 2.
As you mentioned Uncharted uses the cell processor to its full potential. On the pc they need to think about different systems, with different configurations. In addition to this the pc has to do lots of side tasks apart from the game.
Now if we are going to talk about story, emotionality, etc, Uncharted 2 probably wins (I’m saying this because I only played the demo) as Crysis was pretty lame on that part…

But all of this doesn’t have anything to do with the subject. The thing we are all complaining about (and when I say all is ALL, both hardcore pc and console players) is that games industry has grown to a point where its getting more and more mainstream. This increases prices as there’s more demand, makes game more simple and accessible and promotes little innovation (Modern Warfare 2 being the perfect example). Consoles have greatly helped with this as they are as simple as insert disk and play. Come on, if you can’t handle having to configure your settings, managing your drivers and learning a couple things about building a gaming rig then you shouldn’t consider your self a hardcore gamer.
I know, money is an issue, but that’s another matter (even thought, if you are smart, PC gaming is much cheaper than console gaming).
:jizz:

^^^ You know, there’s something to be said about lower resolutions, and how it DOES work to hide the limits of your detail.

You know, the GTA: SA Ultimate Editor has significantly increased the lifespan of that game, something that would NEVER EVER happen on a console. And yes, it’s worth it even when I muck the game up so bad it won’t run anymore or there’s horrible glitches like cars randomly spawn driving backwards or multiple cars keep spawning inside each other or friendly NPCs keep turning aggressive during cutscenes and shooting me, thus locking me in the cutscene forever, and then have to reinstall the whole thing. It’s worth it for those crazy experiences, and the other ones where you can make rarely-used guns into hyperdeadly superweapons, and make the police bike the fastest, quickest, toughest and heaviest vehicle in the whole game with perfect handling and just rocket around smashing every single other pathetic hunk of scrap out of your way like it’s made of tin foil, then hit a unique jump and disappear into the distance before you land and the camera goes back to normal.

You just can’t get that kind of crazy personalized experience on a console, and you probably never will.

[something positively regarding consoles]

Something positive about consoles? Or something very true about consoles.

I own a Wii and that’s the only console I’ve ever truly wanted this generation. Waitin’ till September for Other M!

Actually I agree with you, even if you’re sarcastic. The Wii is kind of original, at least. I have a PC for anything else I could possibly want. I have a 360 that sits unused.

Same. I bought a 360 with a RRoD off ebay for $50 and fixed it and its been sitting in my closet for probably around a year now, even though I have plenty of great games for it.

Yeah that’s basically my story. Plus, I don’t even have to buy a PS3, I just go to my friends house and “borrow” his.

one day people will be playing xbox360 games on PC with an emulator and the graphics will look better than on the real hardware

ha, like how the wii can be emulated at 4x the origional resolution. (not saying the wii is bad but I still find that fact humorous)

Yes, essentially.

I think that “Tycho Magnetic” guy realized the error of his ways.

Yeah, when you have it on low settings… Hurp durp.

it will look better than C1 I’m sure.

Crysis is something that NEEDED simplification control wise too. I welcome this change. No more fucking around trying to pick up a gray gun an enemy dropped only to find it’s perfectly blended in with the gray ground. Just press f when you stand over it. Awesome.

Dear god, Crysis was no better my friend. Seriously. You can post all the pics of the faces you want, that does not change the fact that the facial animation was muddy sloppy shit. C2’s look a bit better, but still look a tad jelloish. IDK how to describe it. All games get at least one thing right about faces. More often than not a few things. But never all.

Pretty awesome comparison shots, there. Mafia II is :jizz:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
