Video Game Graphics (PC vs Consoles)

A lot of people say they prefer console graphics over PC graphics. but if you look at it from this way may think differently.

Graphics on the PC are different for EVERYBODY. Some people like to use graphical mods… some just have bad systems. But trying to say graphics on the PC are bad is a bad sentence it self because everyone has a different look. Some like colors and bloom while others like realism. Now on a lot of games that are available on consoles AND PC have the problem of graphics being too artificial. Such as “FAKE HD” (Brown-ness, Bloom Overload, etc.). All of this done so that consoles can handle good looking graphics at a steady and good frame rate. But PC Gamers are effected by this. A lot of PC gamers have very good systems about 3x of a console. so when they have games like GTAIV come out the PC gamers have to deal with the “Fake HD”.

Now with PC only games you can see a huge graphical difference. Look at ARMAII. If that game came out on the consoles it wouldn’t look as good as it does on the PC, for a FACT. There are plenty of Graphx mods that will change the graphics of games that have “FAKE HD” for PC but are really time consuming for most to tweak and perfect.

Now i have played plenty of PC and Console games in my years and i have noticed all of the above to be very common.

What do you, as the community, think?

… There’s no contest. A PC is, in actuality, better than any console.
[COLOR=‘Black’]Hardware-wise.

even if a game is a direct port of console > pc, if the pc is capable of running it on medium settings or higher it will almost definitely look better than on a console

Anyone running at a res over 1280x720 (so… everyone) already has better visuals than 90% of the console games on the market.

Not that it matters, since the reason for owning the PC version isn’t for graphics, but for superior controls and mods/hacking tools if you’re lucky! San Andreas is much better with hyperdense invincible supercars, and invisible death ray silenced pistols too.

Key game to realize this with, is Crysis 2.

Crysis 2 is a dumbed down version of Crysis, thanks to consoles. Crysis 2 will look worse, and have lower requirements, than Crysis 1.

I’m sure there are console commands to fix all that, though.

Is this a real topic? PC visuals will always beat console viduals hands down no contest

Just mentioning, consoles are easier to optimize graphics for because you’re working on one piece of hardware that’s the same for everyone.
On topic, the game with the best graphics ever (uncharted 2) is a console game. Mainly because it actually uses 100% of the cell processors in the ps3, instead of ignoring them like most developers do.

But not really

Name a game with better graphics?

I’m not sure where you got your information from but that’s an outright fabrication.

Crysis 2 will be greatly visually improved, as well as performance wise. On consoles it will look like Crysis did on medium settings, and on PC it will be able to run at its max potential.

It won’t be some poorly coded port like GTA4 was.

Don’t be so ignorant. you got my friend thinking this was true.

Crysis 2 has lower hardware requirements, because of how unbroken the cry engine is now, and how much richer the coding done well is, that allows this hardware change possible.

Its in fact the Console versions which will be dumbed down, not the pc.

You don’t even need to read the OP. Consoles are stock and standard, limited to the generation said console was released. PC is a customizable platform.

Comparisons are like apples to oranges. Case closed, move along.

Crysis…

…on medium.

I think that’s what you meant to say. Anything else would be ridiculous.

Crysis

Mirror’s Edge

Even Oblivion

Oblivion’s trees look like somebody spammed the clone tool.
Also, Crysis doesn’t look as good in stills.

And graphics still isn’t the real advantage to PC’s, you graphics whore whippersnappers.

The characters in all 3 of those games, (mentioning oblivion is kind of insulting to naughty dog), even though I love the last 2, are very robotic and lack emotive depth. U2 characters are better than any others I’ve ever seen.
The sets in u2 are sculpted to perfect detail, and contain variety of color and texture, unlike Crysis where every thing you see is green and leafy, and even then, they screw it up with exaggerated and often cartoony light effects, like overused bloom, hdr, and motion blur. (usually just to show that they can)
And while I love the way mirror’s edge looks, it’s graphics are only decent because absolutely everything in sight is baked with indirect light passes. Absolutely no outside influence from the artist.
It’s obvious you haven’t played uncharted 2’s train level, or seen it’s cutscenes.

EDIT:
Btw, I looked it up. The max polys that a crysis character used at highest LOD, was about 2000. In u2, the max for nathan was around 19,000, with the max for chloe at 26,000.
