Valve's Next Game

Guitar Hero: Source.

I want them to get their fatasses off World of Warcraft and get back to work on “Half-Life 2: Episode 3 Forever.”

I REALLY don’t want them to rush EP3. I’d be happy if Valve didn’t release any games this year. I want the last part of this story arc to be epically fantastical. :stuck_out_tongue:

So do I, but this is ridiculous. They have missed the entire point of episodic content on such an epic scale that this new Episode better be the greatest thing to ever exist if it wants to make up for the long “development” time.

Maybe they’ll end up making a new engine for it. :fffuuu:

This IS supposed to be the last part of the current storyline… I really want to see how it comes to an end.

Maybe they’re ignoring Ep3 and going straight for gold, HL3.

Hahaha, I wish!

The Star Wars approach- skip around until no one can sanely keep up with the story line (while out of order,) thus making it seem perfect.

Did Valve ever say there would definitely be three episodes?

Yes. They did. (Within logical reason, if we all die tomorrow, obviously, there will be no EP3…) :expressionless:

Also that EP3 would be the end of the current story arc- but I can only assume what the intended by that.

They meant the end of the HL2 story arc. They said it very clearly. :expressionless:

The radiosity engine in Source is actually rather good, but the shadows need… work.

fail thats tron 2.0, still have yet to beat that game

Edit: whoops didnt see that no it isnt in the bottom of the post…

It’ll be the end of the Half-Life 2 story arc, but not the end of the Half-Life franchise.

I forgot to include that part…

Maybe in HL3 you play as Gman and skip around in a meadow full of bunnies and when you’re tired you go back to your princess castle?

Agreed, though looking at BM screenies, I am beginning to question that

the radiosity or the shadows?

I think he means shadows; the character renders, such as this zombie where you can see a definitive self-shadowing effect, are not in-engine renders:

I mean the shadows, but am referring to ingame shots from blast pit, where shadows play a very important part due to the lack of lighting in the older parts of the facility (so of course, blast pit AND others, but bp is the one that sticks in my mind…

Is this what you mean?
If so, that’s just pre-computed lightmaps, and not real-time shadowing.
It’s still stunning, nonetheless.

wait, Valve said no half-life this year?!?!?!?!?!

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
