Hey, don’t blame the Belgians for being smarter than the average forum user that needs a FAQ and/or guideline in order to live a peaceful life on a forum.
The only reason you don’t read the FAQ is because you don’t suggest anything.

Nice screen, but i gotta ask, whats with the valve hate for nortmal maps ? Its a standard everwhere exept at valve, it really hurts them since their games graphics get old really fast ;/
Dont get fooled, it was always like this, even at the old forums flaming and trolling the new users was a sport, its something that really confused me about this community froim when i joined the forums in 2006(i think). Actually i feel the users gone soft in the last year, probably depression over constant bm delays got to them.
So its not lost faith, many of the users are just assholes, gotta get used to that, i did ;]
uh, I’m pretty sure Source has been using normal maps since HL2, so either you need a new prescription or you’ve got your graphical settings really low
ofc the source engine does support them, but look how little of them is actually in the game, i hl2 only some rocks used it and some faces and characters , like gman, in portal, only 1 txture. But in every game on market now, each model has a normal map, texture, and spec map. Its not that source cant render them, its just that valve never uses them, sure part of the problem was lack of dynamic lights in hl2, so you wouldnt see them much anyways, but why not use them in pportal 2 ? Look at the portal gun in the hd vid that was just posted, it has one, but a crappy looking with visible uv seams, but other than that i cantreallly notice much of them.
I for one am glad that valve is moderated with the normal maps.
Have you played Alien vs Predator? Most of the time in that game you can’t tell what’s going on because everything pops out so much. You can’t even distinguish the enemies from the backdrop. When you enter a new area, you can’t understand the shape of the room because of all the glitter and props on the walls and all the contrast in the pixels of the floor.
Effects moderation = success.

If you look close to those Portal 2 screen shots, you might admit that Aperture laboratories wasn’t build by a human, it’s more like some advanced creator. Maybe Combine?
I don’t think so. If you watch some of the gameplay footage, it says, “Copyright Aperture Science 1999.” IIRC, the RC didn’t occur until the 2000’s, sometime.

If GlaDos can rebuild the lab as stated in one of the E3 videos, then we can suppose she also built it. GlaDos was created by humans, so maybe they created her to build the lab, who knows?
My understanding is that she was implemented at a time after the labs were built. Who knows? Maybe she spent enough time being dead to become omniscient and know how to rebuild Aperture.
