I would love Episode 3 but didn’t Valve say before they have nothing HL related to announce in 2010?
Portal 2 is coming this fall, I doubt they would call that announcement a surprise since we all know, and they would not release it earlier than expected, guys, this is Valve!
I don’t think Valve would announce anything Black Mesa related, they have been known to keep their distance from mods. They would not take responsibility or credit for Black Mesa I think…
EP3 would be a surprise but why would they have changed their plan of not releasing it this year? It’s not something you can finish 10 months earlier than expected…
HL3? Valve said that the episodes are basically HL3, and they even said that they think should have called them HL3: Episode 1, 2, 3 instead of HL2. I don’t think we’ll see HL3 anytime in the near future, that being in the following 5 years. They said developing HL2 took so much longer than HL1, so HL3 would take even longer, a new engine, new everything, it would take 10 years, they don’t seem like they want to do it unfortunately!
I don’t know what this can be, but I don’t think it’s Portal/HL related unfortunately. But hey, if it’s really a surprise, then anything is possible! 
If there’s anything I’ve learned from Valve all these years is that you can barely set in stone anything they say about any type of future plans for their games, so yeah, this surprise can be anything, even that puzzle game for the Wii that Gabe has been wanting to do.
Maybe it’s both! Shoot down cliff racers with the Huntsman! Chop off daedras’ heads with the Eyelander!

I’d love it if they brought back “The Crossing” as the surprise. But Ep3 has priority above all else except Portal 2, imo. It’s about fucking time, and they’ve known it.

prospero was a game that was in development when HL1 was, but they canceled it because they wanted to just focus on Half-Life

i just remembered how valve had the purchase brothers working on a super secret project…
maybe, just maybe, its Half-Life the movie
probably not Prospero, but something that may have stemmed from those ideas. Similar to Half life’s realization, as Prospero branched into it’s narrative and design.

Here’s something tastey to think about; Maybe VALVe was contacted by a black mesa dev, and valve was like “OH SHIT GAIS WE HAS TO DO THIS,” so now they are putting out a suprise, Black Mesa Release, on air (G4) that will have some members from the team there. This is unlikely, but i like to think outside the box.
I wouldnt be suprised if it was bms realease on steam for free, but still they canceled e3 for this thing,and its not like a 3days ago they sudenly got the tip that the mod is finished. Must be icefrogs new game, they probly were afarid it will get eaten up by much more popular and more aniticipated games at e3.

Please don’t let it be L4D3…I’d like for them to actually keep supporting the first two, not turn my favorite zombie shooter into a cash cow. The L4D community is already split enough, and both games have suffered because of it.
