Valve's E3 Suprise?

Ah. I guess I was thinking about the other wireless part to the controller. Sorta like the attached nun-chuck thingy on the wii, except Sony’s are wireless so I was partly right.

Play Portal just like on the Wii, but with actual graphics!

What? I’ve never seen volumetric lightning effetcs in source…

…have I?

Example?

Regardless though, it did seem pretty insensitive of Valve to deliberately hype up their E3 presentation like that. I wasn’t necessarily expecting Episode 3, but as numerous people have said, the way that they marketed the ‘surprise’ made it seem like something big, as it wouldn’t have made a whole lot of sense to have a surprise about something we already know a lot about. Yes it’s how advertising works, but it’s rare that adverts are so cumbersome and clumsy in their delivery, and that was pretty damn clumsy advertising. Surely they realised that trailing a surprise just before E3 would have meant that most people’s minds would immediately jump to E3?

I’m not disappointed. I half-expected that anyway - I just wish that Valve wouldn’t toy with their fans’ expectations like that. There’s not a whole lot of justification in that, I just wish it. But I do personally think that they should have just stated that they were going to release it for PS3, or stated it in a creative way rather than leading people on like that. It doesn’t do much to their reputation.

I was hoping something for Episode 3 myself - not a trailer, not even necessarily a screenshot. Just a piece of artwork or something enticing that, considering the hype around Episode 3 already, would have got the crowd raving.

Yes you have. All through the HL games (such as the antlion caves), and virtually every CSS map that has skylights or trees.

Those aren’t real-time, though. They’re like specially tailored effects props

This. It’s done with brushes and models on Hammer, lmao.

So today is the last day of E3… anyone heard what the surprise is? I can’t find it mentioned anywhere. Please tell me Portal 2 being ported to the PS3 wasn’t the surprise. That would be such a huge let down.

That was the surprise.

I heard that gargroach’s dreams just explode. And I proceeded to lawl.

I can hear the screams of fanboys now.

EDIT: Whoops, why can’t you delete posts?

Actually, it is the surprise. And it was a huge let down, too. It’s a shame that we didn’t even had a single word or clue about EP3. I mean, they know we’re waiting for it, they could have told us something.

E3 isn’t the only time of year they can say things about their games.

Just saying.

Yeah, it’s just a pity they missed an opportunity. Hope we’ll have some news soon.

I would like to see something, anything, about ep3 by the end of the year.

Well I know that. He didn’t ask about real time :retard:

Hopefully the new Source engine build supports real-time light shafts.

The Garry’s Mod effect doesn’t count because it sucks and brings your computer to a crawl.

Lol, you said shafts

William Shaftner.
