Valve's E3 Suprise?

No need for hostilities :fffuuu: if you want to be snarky then I’m sure that fans of the Portal and Half-Life games are the intended demographic for the VALVe. And why would I ‘shut up about the surprise’ in a thread titled “VALVE’S E3 SURPRISE?”.

I’m just saying they hyped up this whole thing for a cross-platforming announcement. Thats not really “stop the show” E3 worthy, if you know what I mean.

True, I’ll admit that the trailer was awesome, I watched it multiple times! And granted, Gabe has expressed seething hatred for PS3 in the past. So for intimate followers of VALVe’s inner workings that may have been monumental, but for the general audience it really wasn’t much.

So stay the fuck off my back. Or I’ll cut you. For science. You monster. :3

Well they got CoD 4 running on the Wii. With only some graphical sacrifices.

Portal would be fairly epic on the Wii, but I doubt there’s the market impetus for the time and effort required.

wat

Xbox and PS3 both have motion controls now anyway, so there really is no point to expanding to the Wii and having to downgrade their work. Nintendo’s big revolutionary feature is no longer exclusive to their console, and thus the console is most likely going to go belly up once Kinect and PlayStation Move are released.

Well when compared to the Playstation Move maybe, but Kinect isn’t a replacement for the Wii. Kinect looks just like an Eyetoy. I’d be interested to see what they do with it, but I still think the Wii has enough going for it to stay in the game. Especially since you can only use two Moves on one PS3 (wtf?).

The new motion features aren’t mandatory for design on those consoles odds are serious devolves won’t support them mean no games to buy so consumers won’t get them. Causal gamers which these motion controls aren’t going to want to pay 200$ + another 100$ for the same thing they could get for 200$. Think the wii’s got a small library of games for the next year the library for motion control on ps3 and xbox is going to be microscopic. Sony and Microsoft ain’t got shit on Nintendo.

Did you see those portal trailers?
Was that dynamic radiosity I saw?
Or at least dynamic global lighting…
Also, there seems to be volumetric lightning effects. In the trailer you can see godrays when the turret is being assembled.

Engine looks amazing!

wut? Last I heard you could have 8.

AHHHAHHHAhahahahahahahahahahah, i’m crying man, crying.

Real-time radiosity mhm.

If they’re valve fanboys :<

i think its kind of unnecessary for Valve to announce Portal 2 on the Sony conference, and then announce it AGAIN on their own.

I personally wouldn’t buy CoD 4 for either the PS3 or 360 just because playing with a mouse is infinitely better than playing with a controller. For me, the Wiimote is somewhere in between, though probably less high on the enjoyment scale.

You can only have four. (Read the answer to the third question) And apparently this means it wont be as good. So I was partly wrong.

Looking back, announcing that they have a ‘surprise’ was a dick move on Valve’s part. The way they announced it implied that they’d have something that would blow people away at E3, but instead, they came out with a very expected and a very weak announcement. If they didn’t hype this shit up, people wouldn’t be so pissed.

[COLOR=‘Pink’]Naked Shooter summed it up…………I (like everyone else) was so hyped up about this surprise of Valve’s, the first thing I did, when I got home from work, was put on the G4 channel. I did that for two nights to find out Portal 2 would be on Playstation. Yeah, I’m pissed; made me feel like a damn fool waiting for that surprise. I think Valve should be ashamed of the way they treat their loyal fans. Either PUT UP OR SHUT UP!

Yesh.

Although, isn’t volumetric lighting in the Source engine already?

Yes.

I would have been nicer if you weren’t literally the 10th person saying the exact same thing. For a start, they are trying to broaden the intended demographic. They don’t need to cater to us because we are already going to get the game. They need to cater to people who wouldn’t have gotten the game otherwise, i.e. people whose console wouldn’t run it. Also, they are trying to draw attention to it. Why wouldn’t you hype it? Its just how advertising works.

tl;dr You’re going to buy it anyway, they don’t need to advertise it to you much.

EDIT: In case you couldn’t tell, this thread is now about Portal 2 trailers/ motion controls.

I come bearing gifs: [COLOR=‘Black’]and no, I didn’t make them.

He doesn’t sound like he has much of an accent for me. He just sounds like a guy off the street. :stuck_out_tongue:

Forum Achievement: ‘Piss off the aussies’ - sig all these gifs

[edit] damn, just remembered I have a 1M gif in my sig.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
