Suggestions for the final Steam BM version

That doesn’t make sense though. You teleport to Xen, you don’t travel through a wormhole.

Yes, it makes no sense. Why didn’t you have to travel through a wormhole in AM teleportation?

Make the vortigaunt scene in AM a bit more darker and give it a more apprehensive and confusing feeling. Maybe fog will help.

Add distortions to green xen portals rather just a flare with lightning.

Who made the decision to make the vorts look like they’re transporting Gordon back to earth anyway? I always thought they were standing around you just to scare you

Do not Vorts in HL2 make references to connecting with Gordon or something like that?

Still thought it was cooler when they just stood there staring at you with the somewhat eerie banter.

I think I like what they did before. It’s hard to find a leaked screenshot. LQ sorry!

The place is very dark that it seems that it’s just in Gordon’s imagination. Adding the land in the current version and then less lights and then make the scene a bit blurred by fog may give confusion.

I don’t see what’s problematic about it, the Vorts are good, there wasn’t any Controller around, so it isn’t weird for them to have helped Gordon by sending him back.

Still why send him back? How does the vorts know if Gordon is an ally or an enemy? They don’t have any idea who gordon is. (or maybe they do judging by his hazard suit as other scientists with HEV suits travel to Xen)

EDIT: They only learned that he is an ally after “cutting the cords” that connects them from the Nihilanth.

Maybe they just didn’t like the way he smelled? “Get him out of here, he stinks!”

Maybe the Resonance Cascade sent him back and the four vorts you see in the mod are not sending him back but praying. They could be resistance fighters. Having severed their ties with Nihilanth, they see Gordon for what he truly will become and pray to Gordon to do it.

After all, when vorts are using their magical abilities (the vortessence or whatever) to transport or to ‘knit shattered bone’, they take on a purple coloration that’s nonexistent during the resonance cascade sequence.

I still think the original scene was simply for shock value

Agreeing with you here.

Think people are reading a little too much into it. My personal interpretation was just that Valve was showing us what the resonance cascade had done, and what Gordon would see in the future.

BM team is doing the same, but maybe trying to establish that the Vort’s are friendly or something, nothing more. I don’t think they’re ‘sending him back’. The cascade itself keeps teleporting Gordon in and out of Xen (not in BM, I know), it’s just something that happened, not anything underlying.

Maybe because of the chanting gesture people thought it that way.

So I was active when the mod was about to be released and finished it in the first day of release! #NoLife. Sorry for being inactive so long just school was realy difficult to go through during the months from release to today. So for the steam version, we are waiting for XEN to be done? Or what? I dont know :stuck_out_tongue: . Can anyone awnser me?

No, Steam release takes so long for whatever reasons, but I don’t think Xen is meant to come with it, that’s even later down the line.

No I’m pretty sure they’re waiting on Xen to release on Steam.

The Black mesa team changed the vortigaunts in that scene to make them seem somewhat friendly in order to tie in with Half-Life 2.

I know my suggestions could be a little far fetched, but changes I’d like to see in the final version is:
-Updated weapons with better animations (like the animation revamp project). Maybe even use that pack.
-Higher quality blood effects on the weapons (because the current ones are very low quality and looks ugly on the weapons). Or maybe even give an option to turn the effect off.
-Make the vorts look more dangerous and battle ready with changes to the animation.

Just stupid other stuff I’d like to see (though it strays off from the original) to modernize the game is:
-Having the iron sights view on weapons such as the MP5 (M4); shotgun, and pistol.
-Having a key assigned for quickly throwing a grenade without having to change to the grenades and back again. In most modern games the key binding is ‘G’.
-Having a quick melee attack button to quickly swing the crowbar when close to an enemy without also having to change to the crowbar and back again. In most modern games the key binding is ‘V’.

I’m not a programmer, texture artist or animator so I have NO clue of how possible it is to implement some of these stuff. Yet, without any of these suggestions in the mod at the moment, I still love it to bits.

Before anyone says: “keep that to call of duty” :frowning: there’s nothing wrong with quick-throw and quick-slash buttons even in Half-Life. HELL, there’s quick-gravity gun button in HL2 I believe, so it’s definitely possible.
