Stop stretching on old games?

After seeing the new Starcraft 2 trailer, I decided to dig out my old copy of Starcraft. When I started it, the whole game was stretched because I have a wide screen monitor (1080p). Is there any way to make it fit my screen without stretching? How do I add black bars the side so that the game fits without stretching?

I’ve already tried McBane’s resolution hack but it cause the colors to get messed up. I’m only wanting this for single player.

So, I ask again. How do I make it so that the game keeps it’s original resolution, but has the black bars on the side?

the wide screen hack you have works, It’s explorer that is messing up the colors. The problem is that when the computer switches to 256 color mode windows explorer still reserves a few colors, thus overwriting those allocated to starcraft.

Create a bat file in the same directory as starcraft and sue this code

also if that hack isn’t working the scripts/hacks on widescreen gaming forum are usually good.

That didn’t help. The colors were just as messed up, and the download in the link you gave doesn’t work.

try running it in windowed mode.

I tried it, but it was hard to look at the tiny window.

I know you can use the Nvida control panel to add the black boxes on the side, but I don’t know how. Any ideas?

Use this. You can double the size, and it can capture mouse while still in widowed.

enable every option in the compatibility tab of the .exe properties, except compatibility mode

should fix the colours and if you run it at 640x… resolution it’s not stretched

also make sure xfire ingame is disabled if youre using xfire

I usually just right click on my desktop, then select NVIDIA control panel from the dropdown list. Once the NVIDIA control panel is opened, look for an option called “change flat panel scaling” and set that to “Use NVIDIA Scaling with Fixed-Aspect Ratio”

You’ll obviously need an NVIDIA graphics card, as well as the drivers to support it, but if you can get it working, then it’ll be a lot easier than all these other suggestions, and work for other programs that also have widescreen stretching issues. I know you mentioned wanting to use this method, so hopefully that’ll help guide you to finding that option.

my solution works, is possible with whatever graphics card you have, and only needs to be done once

Yeah, this is what I was looking for, but I can’t find that option in the control panel.

Play Total Annihilation: Spring, instead.

My monitor has a 4:3 option, maybe yours does too.

I have the Spring engine and TA…how do I play TA using the Spring engine? I can’t figure it out.

Read their website, you dope.

Also, what about stretching old anuses? Is the goatman really dead?

I want to replay the game for the story.

If there is no such option, try updating the drivers.

This is how it looks on Intel panel, maybe it can help:

My drivers are new, and it’s not showing up. I really want to play this. :frowning:

For me its

Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > NIVIDIA Control Panel > Adjust desktop size and position > Check Do Not Scale

Edit: Although I personally prefer to stretch it but keep aspect ratio.

I did, you dope. It’s why I said “I can’t figure it out”.
