Steambox: The Steam Universe is Expanding

Found this on my facebook news feed this afternoon. It’s a good read.

If it’s one thing Valve knows how to do, it’s underhanding their product until the unveil. So far it looks promising, and if it’s wildly successful may actually debunk M$ and Sony from their perches.

Look at those thumbpad surfaces, does this mean the surfaces will be easily swappable? Can I use my rubberized casts of Gaben’s nipples for thumpads?

In other words, small-scale cloud computing? Or even extra long-HDMI cables?

The thunderbolt monitor adapter for apple has no physical connection. they use a wireless stream for the 2 inches of the connector. A little extra power and you should be able to broadcast all over your house

Steam Universe group anouncement

There are two independent sets of Video outputs, integrated graphics chip? Also what’s going on with those cable ports? Will the Steambox double as a DVR like the Xbone? Also no VGA? I’m happy with the PS2 keyboard port, I can be a filthy hipster and use my IBM Model M2.

Who uses VGA today? …I do.

Me too.

It’s made for moddabililty, so I’d assume that a huge number of ports is to be expected.

There are so many ports because it’s simply just a regular PC with a flashy OS. Standard Motherboard.

I was gonna say, that picture looks a lot like the guts of my own computer in a smaller space.

I love me some ports! More ports, more options, more fun!

We can probably count 100% on kb+m support. I don’t really see any reason why running a W7 VR would be impossible or slow, so… yeah… awesome!

Coincidence? I think not

“Microsoft’s newfound commitment to PC games certainly is exciting.”

Not really.

“Microsoft’s newfound commitment to PC games certainly is exciting.”

Dead Rising 3 Xbox One exclusive.

I call bullshit.

I agree.

Your fault for expecting anything else from M$. Anything they say is PR.

unless i see EVERY halo up on steam, origin or ANY DRM service (or even better, no DRM) with good optimization and online servers (with mods, but that may be asking too much)

never gonna believe this

$500 unit has an undisclosed multicore AMD CPU and an R9 270. Pretty sure that’s more powerful than the Xbone at the same price.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
