Some sort of ranking would probably be a good idea. Every Steambox gets a rank in performance, and every Steam game gets an accompanying rank. That would make it pretty easy.
That’s a great idea. But there shouldn’t be many tiers, because from a consumer point of view it would be confusing.
He looked to be playing on a really low sensitivity, I hope you can still aim accurately if you turn the sensitivity up.
That looks great. I’m really looking forward to getting this controller.
thats cool, especially because you can use a KB and Mouse instead
I want to see him play a platformer on it. Something 2D and something 3D. Sonic Generations would be a good example.
I’d bet that mostly likely they’ll have Maybe 3. Something to match a current decent machine, something a bit more powerful, and then a fucking powerhouse.
Maybe four then, one more for older games that run perfectly on outdated/slow systems.
inb4 people screaming “BUT ITS JUST A BLACK BOX??!?!?!”
Sounds really great. I might buy it if I can afford it, and supports m+k, and is able to run W7 in VR efficiently.
Still hoping they make a desktop version of SteamOS at some point. As just another Linux distro, really.
Apparently they don’t want to make any games steamOS exclusive, which is good news IMO.

Thanks but just to let you know, I already post that article from last night that you just posted.
I just assumed that, Valve’s a cut above Sony and M$ and isn’t going to play their nasty tricks. Not to mention that would horrifically alienate much of their community seeing as the entire goal of the three components (controller, OS, Steam Machine) is they take two relatively independent things, PC Gaming and Console Gaming, and completely smash the line between them into a wonderfully versatile muddled mess of whatever combination suits your personal situation.
For me I want to turn my old rig into a living room streaming machine running SteamOS and then use the controller with it and my newer rig for less competitive games and my good ol’ KB+M for anything competitive. No other company is currently offering a system flexible enough to achieve this. The only thing close is buying a console and a PC which costs a lot and provides an inferior fragmented experience.
I’m just really worried about SteamOS’s compatibility with older GPUs. Sure Nvidia is going to get the 500/600/700 series running nice and clean, but what about my dated 9800GTX? If I have to make do with shit drivers then it defeats the purpose of the OS.
Didn’t see your edit.
That’s alright we all make mistakes.
One thing that would be cool was if the Steam Machine could turn into a super computer that would be stationed in one place in your house, and then stream to all your monitors, so every monitor would essentially become a terminal. Ken Levine often speaks about having something like this.
