Steam GUI Update!

Shoop da woop

Here’s hoping for Source coming to OSX then! Which actually isn’t that much work, the main difference is the API the engine communicates with. There’s software that easily ports Windows games to communicate with the Mac API (Called Cider… Ubisoft and EA use it, for example). Of course it’ll require additional development time and it won’t be done over night, but some of the posts I read in that thread suggest that Valve would have to recode the entire game from scratch, which is a blatant lie (and one of the reasons why I found Valve’s demand of 1 million dollar absurd).

That’s odd, this looks cool and all… but i have empty dropboxes O_o
Example: if i click on Friends a dropbox comes down…but the dropbox is empty… that counts for all dropboxes, so i dunno whats wrong.
anyone knows whats going on?

That’s normal, it’s still a beta yet so it doesn’t work well.

ORLY?

does everybody got this issue then or is it just me?

go to steam/resource/styles, open “steam.styles” in notepad, search for basefontbold=“Arial Bold” and change it to arial (or whatever font you want). I personally like Calibri.

Comic Sans! Comic Sans!

Only if you want me to react like Kermit in your sig…

Thanks, that fixed it for me! ^^

Ah good, so you have HL2 installed? Does it also have HDR now?

Oh HELL yeah. I just checked it out and the beta version finally adds support for custom categories, which means I can finally sort out my mods by the game they use, as well as Keeping all the Multiplayer stuff separate from everything else

everyone change your steamfont to this. https://www.dafont.com/ninjas.font

No.

this owns clones

Well, yes and no. It’s showing the achievements from “Half-life2: Update” mod. So technically half-life 2 still has no achievements and hdr.

EDIT: nvm

It’s a step in the right direction, they just need to work on de-cluttering it so it doesn’t look quite as complex.

Plus there is now even less consistency between the store’s styling and the steam app (game browsers, etc)… do these guys not talk to each other!?

You’d be surprised how terrible in-company communication can be between departments.

But I just think it’s because this is a beta and they couldn’t be arsed to update the store layout for the sake of having a prettier beta.

For some reason I expected better from Valve, with their supposed lack of hierarchy, on internal comms.

Also new steam store’s styles are better and easier to follow than the rest of the app imo, although your right, it is still a beta (although if it was my work I’d have waited a while longer - getting UI right is just as important as functionality).

Hmm. I’m trying it now, and I like it in theory, but it’s hella slow for me. Gonna try a reboot.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
