Steam GUI Update!

Hm?..

Acristoff: Hey, check out the new Steam!
Imaginary Friend: I did. It sucks.
Acristoff: But look at how sexy it is!
Imaginary Friend: Go away, pervert. I’m not your friend any more!
Acristoff: FFFFFUUUUUUUUU
Imaginary Friend: Poof
Acristoff: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Err, sorry. (Something about dark background colours makes me woefully unproductive). I haven’t downloaded this yet, but does Steam draw inside a normal toplevel window now, or is it still all weird and crazy and trying to create its own resize and window move events?

Well, they fixed that in the latest update, and numerous other things I am yet to notice xD

Is it incredibly sluggish and unresponsive for anyone else?

Not here. From what I’ve been hearing, I’ve been quite lucky to have had no problems at all :o
.

the only problem I have is that sometimes steam doesn’t save my categories correctly.
btw, Steam uses now >300MB of RAM, on idle about 50MB

I got started in the beta last night, and I will admit, this seems loooooaads better than the classic. Of course, I will feel a little nostalgia over the skin (obsidian ftw) I used for four years of my life. Seems pretty smooth, transitions are nice…generally, it seems like a vast improvement.

Oh, and download page? /fapfapfa- Waaaait…No throttle yet!? What is this shit!?

Steam just got sexy.

Oh god I love the games screen I love it so much.

I’ve been able to track down what a few of the specific problems with the categories are. If you create categories and add games to them, do 2 things:

1st = when adding games to a category, add the categories in alphabetical order (first select “half-life” category, then “favorites” then “non-steam”
If you were to add a game to the category “non-steam” and then add it to the “favorites” category this would result in steam forgetting the “non-steam” category because it alphabetically follows the category you selected last.

2nd = restart steam TWICE if you have made ANY changes to what categories games and mods are in. Steam Beta usually forgets the changes on the first restart, then remembers them again on the second restart.

Ok, the "Fatal Error: Could not load load module “Bin/Vgui2.dll” thing is driving me nuts! What is this thing’s problem?!

I love the look etc, but it makes my mouse twitchy.
It’s like the mouse has lag. And graphicaly it shouldn’t be a problem.
My pc should be more than capable of running it.

Thank god we have pretty much the same specs…
That is until you build your beast. :’(

Beast? Good rig for a tight budget, moar liek :stuck_out_tongue:

I had the same problem. Had to end up reinstalling Steam.

I agree with everything intooblivion said, but must also add to the list, PERSONAL E-PENIS METER! :stuck_out_tongue: (aka, gamerscore) What’s the point of achievements, if you can’t see a brag-able number displaying the exact number of inches your e-peen has grown because of it!? But in all seriousness, I wouldn’t want to see a giant virtual penis growing with my every move in my games. What I’m trying to say is, that we need a number for our achievements, why not copy the xbox all the way!?

Anyways, besides this strange talk of e-peens and such, I have had performance problems as well, it appears that they haven’t ironed the kinks out just yet, (hence the beta status) and will hopefully fix any performance problems, maybe making it faster. Other than that, I feel the downscaling quality of the grid view, should be drastically improved (it just looks terrible when your not zoomed in completely, which makes scrolling through games a long and annoying task), and the list view should allow for custom banners for games (mostly for mods or non-steam games) considering that a plain exe icon isn’t going to cut it.

Lastly, this seems to be a step in the right direction in terms of flashiness, (it doesn’t seem to really be adding that many important features) but I’ll always miss the simple look of classic steam. I highly doubt any “classic” skin will ever be released, so enjoy it while it lasts. :frowning:

PS: Just remembered this but am too lazy to edit e-peen rant to include, they should also add FULL COLOR manuals for ALL GAMES, that are viewable from INSIDE STEAM! Anyways, good night. I hope my rant may have affected you in some way

It messed up DoD:S and CS:S icons

not sure I am digging the screenshots

I love the screenshots in the background of the game info, if they give mods the tools to add these into Steam(such as mod info etc.) then it will be excellent.

Don’t you guys think the new steam interface is quite a rip-off from the front page of this site?

Not really.
The BM site is more ‘metallic’ and textured than the gradient-based Steam UI Beta.
