If this gets interrupted in any shape or form, I fear for the future of the game industry. Game prices should go down if this happens but I already know they won’t. We’ve already seen games with ads in them (Deus Ex HR on the loading screens) and the 360 has ads all over the dashboard despite that owners of the console pay for the console, games, and the ability to play online.
Companies register tons of patents every year that never come to fruition, that is probably yet another one of them.
I mean, it’s obvious that implementing that would cause far more harm than good.
Next thing is they’ll patent a survey we must fill in order to play a game, its like an annoying DRM
Oh my, the rage this will cause if they adopt it.
Implementing something like this would be like putting an advertisement on your front door that you have to watch before it lets you insert the key.
We see your enjoying our game and were gonna let you finish but we gotta say that this movie that’s coming out is the best movie of all-time, all-time.
Sounds more like a games Hulu than something that they’ll be sticking into all their games. Can’t afford a game? Fine, play it for free, but we’ll make you watch an ad every ten minutes.
If that’s what it is, doesn’t bother me. Seems like an alright way to try stuff that looks good, but not quite good enough to buy.
I have a feeling this is for Dust. I had a feeling there couldn’t be F2p on a console without some pretty bad drawbacks like this.
God, I hope not, that game is probably the closest thing to a hardcore PC-like FPS experience people are gonna get on a console. It even has support for mouse and keyboard.
Wat? O_o
lol bots
But it was so relevant :fffuuu:
Bots promoting the site it’s currently on to the people currently on the site it’s posting on referring those same people to the site they and it is currently on?
Inception joke.
I could see Sony slapping a “This respawn brought to you by [insert product here]” whenever you die in Dust, but if this gets put into a multiplayer game in the form that is shown in the first post, that’ll be dumb. The only place I could really see it working is in a demo, or an f2p singleplayer game.
Never understood the reason for patenting things like this.
It’s like going to an adoption center and picking the most retarded baby you could find, just because you could.
Mabey their patenting this so no one else can do it and their going to sit on it and not use it at all. Maybe their patenting it for the good of the industry.
^Extremely optimistic and very unlikely^
brb, calling patent office
