Rage

Did the new patch fix some of all the problems?

Okay, you would think that by now game designers would know to make more than one auto save at the beginning of a mission and one at the very end. Do a mission, run out of defib charges, get killed, have to do the entire fucking mission over again. Don’t get me wrong, killing stuff in Rage is fun, especially with the Wing sticks, but god damn it.

I know, right? I once got killed almost at the end of a mission and forgot to quick save. Had to play it all over gain.

inb4 “Back in my day, you couldn’t save your game AT ALL”

Come to think of it, is there a first person shooter out there that couldn’t save?

One of the first tips I saw in RAGE was, “Save early and often.:stuck_out_tongue:

AvP 1 for PC

Spot what’s wrong with this screenshot…

Bet you can’t see it in this one…

lol’d at the first one… Was going to say ‘ubuntu on his computer’ at first.

That’s to me too, but not near as drastically…

At least there’s never a dull moment.

Well look at it this way. When the game’s not screwing up it looks pretty good :stuck_out_tongue: .

That’s the thing though, it doesn’t. The textures are pretty low res, they’ve gotta release a high res texture pack.

I was playing vanilla UT3, and it looks better than rage, texture wise.

Keep posting screenshots. they amuse me.

in the 1st picture one of the textures got replaced with a texture meant for some character’s teeth

John Carmac said back at quakecon that he’d like to release a max pc graphics update, because he is kinda disappointed with the PC version having console assets.

Well it’s not like that’s been said in this thread like 10 times already.

The point of megatextures: FWOOSH over your head.

I found a rather amusing HL2 easter egg in Rage SPOILER ALERT[color=Black] In Subway Town, after you take out the bridge for the Resistance, go to the bar where you collect your rewards for killing bandit cars. When you leave the bar, an Enforcer will tell you to pick up a can of dog food. Not sure what happens if you don’t, but when you pick it up he says “Good boy”.

The point of mega textures sucks for PC gamers. From what I’ve heard of John Carmac talking of them they really only save on RAM. They did this because that’s probably the biggest weakness of consoles is memory. And the repercussions are, they can’t bundle scalable textures and modding is harder with them. This is why the it has low res textures on PC. Most PC gamers don’t have an issue with RAM because RAM is cheap nowadays.

You’re probably thinking Megatexture is some sort of more advanced texture streaming tech. It does that but that’s not its point.

Megatexture is, literally, a huge resolution texture that covers the whole terrain of the game. Instead of reusing a limited number of textures throughout the world, this game actually uses a single huge resolution texture that allows artists to make every single inch of the game totally unique. Texture streaming is part of it, since the game won’t and can’t render the whole thing at once, obviously. This also requires more video memory per pass, since every texture is unique and they’re not reusing assets to save memory, which is the reason why texture pop-in is particularly bad in this game.

However, and unrelated to the megatexture tech, id wanted the game to run at a steady 60 frames per second on console and PC, and as such they had to trade off visual quality for performance, so that’s why we’re not getting very detailed textures or real time shadows in the world.
