Rage

Plus that it’s apparently locked at 60 FPS on all consoles and you can’t change the visual settings to make it go higher or lower.

And no real time shadows? Damn that sucks.

Maybe so, but I see no advancement in my texture mapping(regardless of glitches), or performance, the install is huge, and in most cases it doesn’t look as good as other games.

Right.

Check it out y’all, In response to ID’s poor support for the PC version of RAGE, we get even more of the “shaft”

https://www.gamefront.com/carmack-we-do-not-see-the-pc-as-the-leading-platform-for-games/

Aka, id, you screwed up good.

Personally I think devs take the PC platform for granted. The fact that its an open platform is a god send. I’d like to see them neglect it just so console manufactures can stick them with some old school Nintendo game overlord shit. With ridiculous royalties and certification process.

I beat Rage. Way to short for a 20 GB game.

I only have a few complaints about rage:

  1. Id released an incomplete product on the PC. ATI/Nvidia are also to blame for driver support, but thats typical and an easy fix. Tweaking rage’s code however (in order too achieve HQ results with good performance), is something I shouldn’t have to do. Id/Carmack definitely dropped the ball with PC rage, but quotes like the following taken from Bloodshot’s post are worth pointing out: “Carmack noted the power of the PC platform and said that developing RAGE for consoles and porting it to PC had been a mistake.” At least he realizes the PC needs more dedication, whether they follow through with Doom 4 remains to be seen.

After a little work configuring rage, I am happy and satisfied with the results. I think the environments are impressive and I like the the models and animations. Overall the game is beautiful with lots of detail.

  1. Story is non-existent. Rage definitely relies on the player’s interest to explore the environment and kill shit. There is little emotional interest in the characters and gratification is achieved from combat and finding useful gear. For the most part, the AI is fun to fight and your weapons feel powerful, something which I felt was lacking in Doom3. The driving feature is a good solution for traveling the distances in rage, but aside from the vehicular combat nothing special. The racing and side-games can provide a quick and entertaining way to upgrade vehicles and make money, but only act as a distraction to the quests and combat.

Basically, combat is king and rage delivers.

  1. I haven’t had time to beat the game yet, but apparently it is short for its size. That just sucks, period.

So the consensus is that it’s Borderlands with better vehicle handling? After all, the story in both games is spartan and they have similar art styles with regards to massive desert “Mad Max” inspired environs.

Its not Borderlands at all. Gameplay wise.

No one said anything about borderlands. that shit can gtfo.

Also, what Surplus said. Rage’s combat makes borderlands look like a wii game.

Agreed.

The only similarity to borderlines is a canyon landscape, vehicles, and both are first person. The only reason its easy to compare the two is a lack of story with either game. As alluded to by myself and others, the combat in Rage sets it apart. IMO the rpg characteristics of borderlands drastically affects the gameplay and combat, making it very different from rage.

Another nice touch are the weapon impacts and damage effects in rage. Enemies react to being shot and behave differently depending on damage. There are a range of reaction animations and death sequences to keep things fresh. I think it helps bring personality to your victims as you fill them with lead.

I find it very satisfying to kill things in rage.

This sentence sounds a little concerning when taken out of context.

Perhaps he should’ve capitalized RAGE.

This game runs flawless on xbox, framerate is a constant 1 billion per second.
Don’t bother with the PC version unless you’re too shallow to ignore slightly less flamboyant graphics.

As for everyone griping about the shitty story, keep in mind it was made by iD Software. Every game they create has little to no mythos, and is almost entirely combat and mechanics oriented. They expect you to use your imagination as to why you’re doing what you are.

AND TO FUCK SHIT UP

Unless you don’t have any consoles :stuck_out_tongue:

translation: Unless you’re poor

I’m not poor, and I don’t have any current generation consoles.

Is the PS3 version noticeably different than the 360 version? If I buy/rent it I’ll probably be getting it for that.

PS3 games are sometimes brighter or lower contrast than the other versions, nothing really huge that isn’t fixable. Seldom is there a meaningful difference between ports.

If you have a PS3 you’re probably used to the way it handles FPS games
