Portal Stories: Mel

https://store.steampowered.com/app/317400/

Community made mod for Portal 2.

Did anyone seen this before.I found it on Steam upcoming releases.

PS: It has a new portal gun, old schhol style.

It looks awesome.

Following

Followed. I’d like to play this. It makes me want a Portal prequel set during the time in which Cave Johnson was still alive. Maybe the incorporation of time travel (into the future anyway) could be used to explore the height, downfall and rebirth of Aperture Science. Start where Aperture first begins, go through until the events of Portal 1 where Chell goes into stasis to be waken up at a later date to being Portal 1… and you die of a deadly neurotoxin or something.

I too want to play in the era where Cave is still heard or is around the facilitiy. And with this mod and the Portal 2: Repercussions coming along
i can’t wait to play them both!

I like the Portal 2:Repercussions better, i has nice looking gun!

When can we playtest this mod?

It says June 25, 2015.

Still a week to go

The game is just few hours until opening to public guys, what do you say
will it cost money or will it be free?

The Steam page says:
“Mel is a community made, free modification for Portal 2 based in the Portal universe. It tells the story of Mel, who meets a new personality core and faces an undiscovered threat to the Aperture facility.”

Like you, I’m really looking forward to seeing this!

I’ve played through part of it. Seems fairly well designed so far. However–

–after entering the relaxation vault and awakening sometime later (don’t know how long yet), the writing seems to go downhill. The writing for Cave Johnson beforehand was okay, but after the relaxation vault sequence, Cave Johnson became this… I don’t know how to say it, but he doesn’t feel like Cave Johnson anymore. Sheepish is not a word I’d use to describe Cave Johnson. Ever. Yet that’s the feeling I’m getting here. I hope it’ll clear up soon.

(Also, I moved this thread to Technology and Gaming. The previous location is for the Black Mesa game, not for other mods.)

Yeah, I thought that too. That forceful confident voice, that should be in place, just isn’t there. They need to redo his entire voice script with a new director.

Yeah. Cave Johnson and J. Jonah Jameson are almost identical (except Jameson is running a newspaper, not a science facility). The makers of this mod should remember that.

Started to play the game, and got stuck on the second room.
Yay.
The one with the cylinder rising when you stand on a button.

Ah. There’s a reason for what’s going on. I’m okay with the mod now.

For your task, Johnwalter, here’s what you do:
The order of the cubes are important.

 1. Put a portal below the first cube chute and one on the angled platform.
 2. Push the pedestal button to start a loop, with Cube A going through the portal and being flung into the emancipation grille. Image
 3. Stand on the large button to bring down the emancipation grille and have Cube A hit the large button on the wall. Image
 4. This will bring Cube B into the area.
 5. Grab Cube A and put it somewhere so the loop ends. Image
 6. Grab Cube B and place it on the large button to keep the emancipation grille down. Image
 7. Grab Cube A and throw it off the edge. Image
 8. As quickly as you can, run to the cylinder and stand on it. Let physics do the rest. Image
 9. Once the cylinder raises, you can use physics and portals to fling a cube up to the ledge with you so you can grab it (Image) and put it on the button (Image).
Hope that helps!

Yeah, explanation satisfactory

Of course, when a cube is destroyed, another one will fall down.
thx.

But everything seems glued to the world.

Cups, typewriter, u cannot pick up any props at all

So, just like Portal 2.

Well, doesn’t that make the game run better?
i mean, all of those “moving props” have to spawn right when loading
the map, so a lot of stuff.
For me it is same.Able to pick up everything or not is not
important.

Yeah, that really is just not right. You’ll find just a few things you can pick up which is bad because it kind of lets you know that you should know that they can be moved.

The other problem I had was that there were too many verbal instructions. Should have let you figure stuff out by yourself.
