to be fair, they kind of kept the wilderness to a minimum. It was mostly mills, mines, and more underground bunkers. But i liked what wilderness they had.
Most of my opinion on the wilderness would have been higher if hadn’t been for that awful cave section for the first hour or so of gameplay. It put me in a bad mood for the rest of the episode.
I liked “on a rail” …there were shortcuts… Battle between soldiers and vortiguants were one of greatest parts there. I finished HL1 over 60 times but to end only 5-6 times, so maybe I didn’t liked XEN too much.
What I didn’t liked - vehicle parts in HL2. That was main reason why I finished HL2 jut 3-4 times. By other words… NOTHING can beat HL1 except Black Mesa ;o)
Yeah, I tried to get my brother to play through Half-Life once, he gave up not too far into OAR and hasn’t played since. Said he got bored of it.
me its just the beging why :freeman: you cant do anthing but move around a small tram does anyone agree
I hated On A Rail, I gave up on HL1:S because I got so frustrated with it, until I saw a Youtube walkthrough for it. After following the walkthrough, I then realised it’s far easier to give up on the tram, walk through the level, pushing switches and killing all the grunts and 'gaunts, then just go back to the start and just drive the tram to the end in one go.
I might try that. I have to finish the game at some point!
You have no idea how long it took me to realize that you have to shoot the signs to change tracks on OAR.
I don’t see why people don’t like ravenholm, and how it’s scary. I’m 14, and yet it didn’t seem scary.
ravenholm was terrifying first time i played hl2. i was 12 when i played it and i almost shitted my pants. mostly because there’s a point in that game where you have to find out where to go and an endless respawn of zombies keep coming. your first time playing, you didn’t know you had to go up to this building a pull a lever to move this platform, and ultimately, use the platform to cross. it becomes so scary in that one level i stopped playing for a couple of hours. overrall, it took me 3 hours to beat ravenholm the first time i played half-life 2 as a 12 year old, and i felt the so relieved beating it. not because it was bad, but because it was so scary, it was good.
i think i enjoyed half-life 2 more than hl1.
Residue Processing, blast pit, & on a rail. I remember when I first played through half-life, those were the chapters I had the most trouble on. When I was finished with them I always had 1 health left.
I know exactly what are you talking about. The same thing happened to me, except it took me about 2 weeks to beat that part. I was just extremely terrified to play, and I was about 14 years old.
The only part of HL that I didn’t like is when Eli dies. Damn, the only man who really knew who G-Man is is now dead.
The Combine took all his knowledge, so it’s still floating around there.
I agree. Ravenholm is pretty scary.
I used to load the next chapter through concommands every time I got up to Ravenholm.
Now I don’t think it’s scary at all and I finally have realized the level’s true glory. :3
I was 9 when I first played it. I wasn’t scared at any moment at all. And I’m easily scared.
It’s interesting how this evolved…
I didn’t like Residue Processing the first time through, because of no ammo (or very limited). Gonarch was also very painful first few times. And my first match with Nihilanth took ages, because I was scared shitless by all those lightning balls and his spawning of Vorts…
In HL2, Ravenholm gave me the creeps the first few playthroughs, especially poison zombies are scary. But now, the only part I don’t like much in HL2 is Entanglement. All others are OK.
In Episode 1, I missed some vehicular action and something new. Although on second playthrough, it improved.
Episode 2 is just marvelous alltogether.
Wimps. I just sprint-jump that gap, no dicking around with motorised carts unlike a certain European priest.
You all must have ADHD to get bored of OAR. Sure it’s not that fun but surely you can preservere to get to the better chapters? And yes, I use the tram instead of walking. All that running would make anyone tired.
I finished playing On a Rail last night and I can say that it’s not nearly as bad as a whole as I thought it was. I could see how it could be ew and boring on repeat playthroughs but once I started playing it again it held my interest. I used the tram sometimes, other times I did not. It still seems like a low point but it works good nuff.
Poison Headcrabs / Zombies.
I freaked out every time my HP dropped to 1.
