As I said before, I was not happy with Episode 2’s multi-Strider battle. I said it was clunky, cumbersome and tiring. However, I played through it again and can safely say it’s a map that gets better with a second playthrough. Once you know what to expect and that you can pick up the logs with the gravity gun it’s actually a really fun battle. As long as you can keep the car from getting stuck somewhere, and the gravity gun usually sorts that out, it can be a real blast.
Now, Highway 17/Sandtraps. A lot of people seem to dislike these chapters, which at first surprised me because I had such fond memories of them. Especially on my first time through, Highway 17 was incredibly fun with tons of opportunities to make the player feel clever. Sneaking up on Combines all along the coast followed taking out the squads in the abandoned house areas was really cool. And the bridge area, I felt, was pretty cool on the first time through. The only part I didn’t have fun with first time through was taking out the Lighthouse Point Gunship but that was only because, get this, I didn’t know that you could use the laser to home in on the target.
:fffuuu:
Sandtraps is a pretty cool area, if you ask me which you sort of did by complaining about it. Passing the sand area takes a little time but is ultimately satisfying and usually plausible. And I can’t even begin to describe how awesome it felt, after being pestered by Antlions for two, long chapters to have them as allies. In the commentary, it mentioned how some playtesters would treat Antlions as their pets. That was me. I still can’t forgive Valve for not implementing a way to pet them.
Half-Life
On a Rail.
Opposing Force
We are not Alone.
Half-Life 2
The part just after beating the Hunter-chopper in Water Hazard.
We don’t go to Ravenholm.
Most irritating? Quite possibly “Anti-citizen one,” that gave me a phobia of halls… Dispatched the metrocops at the barricade, enter into building.
“Doctor Freeman wait!”
Two rebels rush out to meet me, preventing me from moving forward while the ones behind me prevent me from going backward. Had to quick load… the bastards.
I didn’t like xen because I would have preferred to finish the game inside the Black Mesa facility.
Xen just doesn’t seem to fit right with HL and its sequels.
I liked the ending You ended it in the same place you started.
HL: On a Rail. Just boring.
HL2: Water Hazard. Seriously-what-were-they-thinking -boring.
Are you sure the tram was IN the bm facility?
Doesn’t matter. You started in a tram, you finished in a tram.
ur right.
Reword:
I would have preferred to stay in\around black mesa
The Sandtraps part where you can’t touch the ground
Forget the antlions i just ran past it and hoped for the best
All the other parts were awesome though
On a Rail, bleh. Really boring and repetitive. Confusing at first, but once you play through Half Life so many times it’s easy. But, I still hate that part.
If first disliked the Mines after Ravenholm but find it quite relaxing now by not going down to the floor immediately but stay on the planks and kill (almost) all crabs before finally going down.
Half-Life: On a Rail and Xen
Half-Life 2: Water Hazard
The endings after he first playthrough. Xen wasn’t much fun to begin with. And getting to the citadel in HL2 and losing your weapons and gaining the super grav gun is fun once. Not much after that. And “On a Rail” for sure.
Seems like they’re always fun the first time, things just get a little repetitive afterwards.
Surprised people are saying Nova Prospekt. Thats one of my favorite sequences. Ant Lion army ftw.
man, after reading this thread i never want to play any Half-Life game again haha (except black mesa)[/SIZE]
me neither
is there a thread of wats fun in hl-series?
it seems i have have forgot them …
HL1: On a motherfucking Rail. AAAARGH It was just so annoying, and I hate riding on trams in that game anyway.
HLOF: The tunnels with all the voltigores. I played through that more times, and each time I shit my pants because they’d jump out of the darkness randomly. AND MY NIGHT VISION KEPT GOING OUT
HLBS: The jumping puzzle in Xen. I mean ARGH and the explosions DOUBLE ARGH
HL2: I’d really have to say when you were trying to outrun the chopper on your little boat thing. That annoyed me to no end.
Ep1: Pressurizing or whatever they called it the Citadel. Only for it to BLOW UP ANYWAY.
Ep2: Running away from the freakin’ Guard, and the fighting off the millions of hordes of Hunters and Striders. AT THE SAME TIME.
I love how we’re all saying such derogatory shit about HL, even though we still love it so much >:C
I loved the last fight in E2. Running over the Hunters with the car was really fun and it was satisfying blowing those Striders to pieces.
