No Dedicated Server support for PC Modern Warfare 2

I could explain at greater length my reasons for not considering generals a proper C&C game but i don’t want to take this thread off topic.

Thank you. That doesn’t stop too many people. Like me, for example.

I’d probably support your argument if I could get the blasted game to run. :frowning:

I hate how all the once-good companies that focused on the PC versions of their games are now suddenly flipping off the people who got them to where they are on their way out to the consoles. I just bought Borderlands instead of this, the only way I’ll buy it now is if it is hailed as the greatest game of all time by Raminator himself or if I find it amazing by playing it at a friend’s house.

Also, why the hell does everyone have to keep saying “PC GAEMIN IS DEAD”, maybe I’m just going through the denial part of accepting it’s dying because I got into it only 2-3 years ago, but in my opinion it isn’t. It’s just the great PC depression.

Hear that Ram? You just need to endorse a game to Acristoff and he’ll buy it. I’d try to get some money off publishers if I were you.

hey look, i found a leaked PC copy/virus.

Posting a link to piracy? Not a good idea you got there mate.

it’s actually a virus most likely, and i have no intention of actually downloading, nor should any of you being as it’s not real.

That would be a great situation for spoiler tags then.

Too bad we can’t use them…Yet.

Yes you can. You just say “Spoilers below”

Then put in about a million lines, as I did there.

I hate to support IW after this idiocy they are pulling with the PC version but I’ll still be buying a 360 copy solely for multiplayer. CoD4 MP is the shit. Usually I only play FPS on the PC but CoD4 is the exception. I did try it out on PC but it felt really weird, probably because I’ve logged days of play time into MP on the 360.

Warning: Post may include RAGEEEEE

Now that IW has dropped dedicated servers for their game ID shows up and is all like “sup bitches we ain’t gonna support all 'yall!”.

Fuck, like I said all the companies that focused on the PC are now just forgetting about it and treating it like a port. For christ’s sake, Doom 1 is still being played because of all the mods and they don’t even fucking notice? Rage was going to be under my radar but unless it’s fucking amazing…

And there is no way for the PC community to tell these guys that we aren’t their little dicks, buying the game to boost their PC sales to make them focus again will make them think that taking out the dedicated servers was a good thing.

Fuck you Id and IW and whoever is next.

My friend says that HL2 is a shitty game. Same applies to Hl1.

And people say Halo 3 is full of homophobic 8 year olds. At least the game’s advertising department isn’t RUN by them.

Welcome to the English language where the same word can have more than one meaning.

Okay, after having some thought on the issue, and reading some reader reviews of the PC version of MW2, I have my final thoughts:

So what? The game’s still great if you liked CoD4. According to some non-biased PC gamer’s experiences, there’s no lag, the graphics are better on PC, the framerate is still amazing, and it’s still an awesome game. Charging another $10 is a little kind of greedy, but is $10 really that important to you?

But that isn’t stopping elitist from bitching, of course. They pirate games, and expect developers to worship them as if the industry owes PC gamers something. They’re all going to cry and bitch about it, but 99% of them are buying the game anyway.

I also love how PC gamers act like they’re so much better than console gamers. I enjoy games, no matter what platform. The controller works perfectly fine, and the graphics and framerate are also great. Not as good as the PC version, but I didn’t care about graphics in the first place.

PC gaming isn’t dead, by any means. It’s just become irrelevant in today’s gaming world. Most of the main PC gaming features (online multiplayer) are now possible on consoles and it works great. Don’t believe me? Ask the millions of XBox 360 owners that play MW2 all the time.

Really, all PC gaming has now is mods, which developers want to bring to consoles. But even without mods, a console gaming experience is still a great gaming experience (unless you’re stuck with a Wii). Whether or not it’s the best gaming experience is debatable, but I’m too busy playing great games across all platforms to care.

No, I don’t want anyone here to run out and get an XBox 360. If your PC gaming experience works for you, that’s great. I just want PC gamers to understand that console gamers aren’t just “casual” gamers/

But hopefully this little disaster will give not only Infinity Ward, but the entire gaming industry, a nice warning next time they decide on whether or not to include dedicated server support.

Most console gamers I know are casual gamers. Just throwing that out there. Also, multiplayer is still better on a PC, since it has more players generally, which means more fun, generally, and that takes dedicated servers. But PC gamers always have Valve, so thats enough.

EDIT: Having said that, I would like to disassociate myself from the people that are making the comments here, although they did make me laugh.

You either know a minority of XBox 360 or PS3 owners or you know a Wii owner. Everyone I know takes gaming too seriously, just like EVERY multiplayer gaming community.

That may be true, but I’ve been playing MW2 non-stop and had no problems getting into a game.
It sucks that Infinity Ward did this, but like I said: I’m fine, so I don’t care.

I guess.
And again, I’m not being a console fanboy trying to get someone to buy a console. This is my personal opinion as a gamer. I know no one on these fourms are going to say “oh gee wiz! He’s right! I need to get an XBox 360!” Nor do I want that to happen.

Brilliant.
Look, just because one little feature isn’t in the game, and a price hike, that doesn’t make a game worth 1.4. Especially if it’s awesome (it is.)
I bet the people that are writing those reviews haven’t even played the game yet.

Most likely they haven’t. But it is really annoying for me because that is one of the ways I judge whether a game is good.

The game itself is fantastic. Not sure if it’s worth the hideous amount of pre-orders it got, but it’s still great all the same. Jury’s still out on the multiplayer for me, though. Still waiting for a LAN hack.

I hate when I’m in a situation where I want to lean, though. I end up throwing a flashbang and blinding myself. :frowning:
