MW3 vs BF3

I wouldn’t say that they’re all over the place in BF3 and they seem to be at random because at some points where pretty much the same thing happens where earlier it had a qte it didn’t this time. I haven’t played DNF though so I can’t compare.

Well, we were talking about BF: Vietnam there for a bit.

Unless someone says otherwise, I will still assume it doesn’t have support for Y-axis inversion.

Isn’t Beyond Good & Evil like that too?

Beyond Good & Evil supports it. The kicker is, if you invert the Y axis, it also inverts the X axis.
(unsure about the PC version, this is both the PS2 and Xbox 360 versions)

Yeah, we all bought the game for the multiplayer, obviously. But, my philosophy with singleplayer is that, if it’s at best mediocre, it should not exist. Call me elitist, but the problem is that the SP has a basically a watermark displaying “AN AFTERTHOUGHT” through and through. And frankly, it only makes me wonder what could’ve been if it had as much care and polish as the multiplayer, only making me hate the current SP even more. At least give us a reason for killing gringos/ruskies or simply have a single paragraph saying “shit went down de drain yo”.

At least we get to play as actual Spetsnaz which is always a plus in my book. A Spetsnaz which isn’t a huge dick.

Also, QTE’s. WHY?

Well, to be fair, none of the Battlefield games have had a very good singleplayer. It’s just not what they were originally made for.

Also, with QTE, they probably thought it was a good idea since it was a popular mechanic for other games. However, they more than likely forgot how arduous it would be for PC gamers to deal with such a mechanic.

There are legitimate reasons for everything, I’m sure, so I wouldn’t try and bash them too hard. >.>

I personally enjoyed the campaign in Battlefield 3. It had it’s ups and downs. I still mark it better than any of the Modern Warfare games. It lasted longer for a start. I also find every single character in MW utterly unlikable.

That’s just my opinion though.

I liked Gaz. And Price had epic facial hair, but the rest, not so much.

As long as it just affects the camera, not the actual movement of the character. When I played through Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 on the GCN, the default camera controls for the X-axis were inverted, so when I moved to another third person action game, it totally threw me off.

My biggest pet peeve, is when a game doesn’t support inverse Y-axis support. As I said before, without that option, a game would be unplayable for me. I’ve been playing inverted since StarFox on SNES, so I don’t think that’s ever going to change.

Yep, BF3 biggest disappointment. Not because of the gameplay or anything like that, It’s just it’s the biggest pain in the ass to run on PC. All this new browser running bs, It’ll lockup my computer after a few minutes of play for no good reason, I’m running a recently upgraded PC as well. Apparently it happened in BC2 as well. But the console in mind made games of MW I’ve never had a single problem with on my PC, so looks like MW3 will be better; like someone said as long as it isn’t bad as well.

I disagree. I loved the Bad company campaigns >.>

I bought BF3 and I just bought MW3 and I intend to play and enjoy both in their own ways.

When I want to be slightly more tactical and sneaky and feel like getting spawncamped endlessly by a tank, I’ll play BF3. When I feel like fragging and getting yelled at by 10 year old arms specialists, I’ll play MW3.

Pretty sure MW3 will be the victor in this “battle”, though. Not because it’s a better game, but just because EA fucked up with Origin and Battlelog and releasing an untested beta version of the game as “the real deal” (no, 10 days of stress testing does not qualify as a proper beta test). And considering MW3 is more of the same old, MW2 and BO kind of acted as beta tests, it won’t suffer from most of that.

You’re probably right about who wins out because every twelve year old twat that plays Modern Warfare will have their moms pick up a copy for them simply because it’s the new Call of Duty game. However, you are forgetting to acknowledge the console market, where the sales will most likely, and probably already have, far exceed the sales figures of the PC market. I don’t believe Origin or BattleLog would be a deciding factor, simply because console gamers don’t have to deal with installation issues or external browsers to find an online game when matchmaking.

The console market is important to notate because the large majority of consumers that purchase these games will be owners of either an Xbox or a PlayStation. Especially in the case of Modern Warfare 3.

I can see you are approaching this conversation with maturity.

Right, so I just finished MW3’s campaign.

That was quite enjoyable honestly. Better than MW2’s campaign and not as ridiculous, but still, some memorable set-pieces. Also, I clocked a 5 hour long playthrough, which is about right for the franchise.

Did you play BF3’s? Which did you enjoy more?

Haven’t beat BF3’s yet, been too busy with multiplayer but plan on doing that soon.

The “Realistic” connotation for BF3 is in reference to attributes of the game being more realistic than previous games or competitors, not in reference to it being a realistic representation of the feeling of war. Weapon sounds were painstakingly recorded by EA of the actual weapons to get the sound just right, the same goes for vehicles and other various ambient sounds. Textures, details, weapon models, player models, all hold extreme detail and accuracy to current military technologies (electronic or otherwise). Bullet physics (forgetting wind speed, air density, moisture), velocity differences, even sun glare – a strategic attribute absent from games before this, all have been included. This is what is realistic.

However, to say it is a realistic representation of war is erroneous. As has been said before, when bullets are flying past your head which can actually end your life, it’s a completely different feeling. Seeing a buddy die in a game is not the same as seeing your best friend get blown to pieces before your eyes by some asshole who you can’t even see. You can’t experience the 110 degree heat in full body armor and fatigues, or the stink and sweat. War is hell, anyone who claims a game to be a realistic representation of what “war” feels like is ill-informed.

Anyway, Between MW2/MW3 and BF3, one winner clearly comes out on top in terms of realism: BF3. And again, not in reference to a realistic representation of the feeling of war.
